Similar, but there's usually at least one great comeback every week in world soccer.

Simply put, your chances of coming back are greater with a goalie than without one.

This isn't legal...

I'm aware, I just meant that you'd be unprotected and the offensive gain would be extremely minimal. Goalies have as much offensive soccer talent as an o lineman has in football

The risk/reward just isn't in your favor. It's way too likely to lead to an open net goal.

They said she was "in another life", so I don't know if she actually played forward. She's a rare bird, not the norm

Also in hockey can't you do a penalty for the ref to stop play? In soccer the ref will allow it to be played through if a goal is about to be scored and/or red card.

And their worth something standing at the other end with 2 minutes left?

yes, you'll usually see them adopt a more advanced position than normal when their team is chasing the game. there aren't a ton of soccer players that can score on an open goal from 70 yds in open play consistently, but all of them can kick the ball 70 yds. if you throw 11 players into their half, there's ~4200 yds^2 of space for the opposing player to kick the ball into. you have to retrieve it, and that wastes valuable time. if a goalkeeper is sitting in your half, he can return the ball.

Also goalies can start up an.offensive threat...think of Howard and his perfect pass to start the Algeria run..if he's pulled that never happens walking the.ball up

This is a great point that no one brought up before. You'd be burning the clock on yourself

And the clock does stop in a sport like hockey for dead "pucks" fouls, etc.

Maybe they should do this in soccer...

Relax...I'm joking.

In some cases, goal differential matters. Even if the shot is easy, this is a huge overlooked point.
