Everyone has their own methods and tricks.
So I want to hear your own process/tips for producing the perfect hard-boiled egg.
P.S.
I'm really bored at work right now.

Cold water to cover. When it starts to boil, I turn off the heat, cover for 15 minutes, drain hot water, cover with ice and add cold water until cooled.

Boil for 2 minutes. Let coast for 6 in hot water (I've got electric glass top). Place in sink to cool off for 3 minutes. Peel. Toss to dogs. They love boiled eggs.

I don't try to boil the water as fast as possible. If the temp comes up a little slower, there's less chance of the shells cracking and getting stringy stuff in the water.
For easy peeling, when done, immediately drain the hot water and replace with ice water. Shake the pan to crack the shells. Older eggs peel easier than super-fresh ones.

I put the eggs in the water already cold and let it come to a boil
After they are done boiling I place in a bowl of ice water
Then I remove shell under the faucet
This is the correct way to do it and anyone who does anything differently hangs out with Mike da Tigah in the Red Lobster parking lot.

as someone who has really little to no use to boil eggs, is there a wrong way?
obviously if you're not paying attention, the water could boil out & you could theoretically scorch the egg
but, how can you frick this up?

I'd pay money for a pic of MDT in that parking lot.

stu, your shitty attitude towards a legit "how to" question on the food board has made me rethink starting my very own how to thread about toast...i just don't want to get called out and embarrased......you a-hole.

bring water to boil as fast as possible
put eggs in boiling water for 8 mins
take off stove, pour water out, let cold water run on top

Tell the wife I want a boiled egg.

For hard-boiled:
For soft-boiled, let it sit for 7 minutes.
Kind of. If you boil them too long they are more likely to crack in the water. If you let them sit too long in hot water, the outer part of the yolk starts to turn greenish-gray, and they can be harder to peel also.
The goal is to have an easy-to-peel egg with a perfectly set, completely yellow yolk.

This produces perfectly boiled eggs every time. The only thing I can add to this is that once they hit boiling I move them off of the electric burner (if you're using electric) onto an unused burner because the heat that lingers with electric will keep it boiling longer than desired.

So you're saying be on the lookout for the pissed off guy in the parking lot, huh?
