It does seem weird that Davante didn't have issue with playing WR but now has to be recruited to play RB. I'm no scout but isn't he 6'3" which seems to be size better suited for WR and tall for RB.

The bigger issue to me is A&M supporting Davante in some way others didn't through his recent academic and legal issues. It seems Les has trouble committing to kids like this; like Floyd Raven, Eddy Lacey, Christine Michael, Darrington Sentimore, etc.. It's probably a good thing but can be concerning as well.

I hate losing in state talent but choose to trust our staff and system since it translates to top 10 classes annually.

well i don't see anywhere where texas a&m offered as WR then came back and said well you can play RB and you're our number 1 guy at the spot.

You have to always consider the source. A&M could have done the same thing just sooner, or they could have just recruited him strictly at RB from beginning. No one truly knows. This goes on everywhere. See Brent Calloway last year. Verbally commits with Bama, then switches to Auburn cause they would give him the chance at RB, then Saban says he can start Summer practice at RB and he's back at Bama on Signing Day. I think all coaching staffs are doing this to get the signature, then they evaluate in practice, and put the player where they best fit at some point.

Kind of humorous that LSU just now tells him they want him as a RB. Surely the kid isn't dumb enough to believe that.

It's a commitment for an opportunity. It's not a contract for the RB position. My interpretation is that Lsu is saying Davante can have a chance to compete at RB from the beginning if and when he commits. His Dad should understand this concept. As i said earlier, i believe All schools are doing this to get the player then they just put them where they best fit after practices and evaluations. Btw, I don't see an issue with it. Give a kid a chance at a position he has passion for and if it doesn't work out, move him to a more suitable spot.

I believe Raven was injured and couldn't perform for the coaches in camp. At the end of the evaluation period, Cooper liked Jalen Collins and David Jenkins more even though they were out of state prospects. The staff wanted Dexter Pratt over Christine Michael and already had Mike Ford as the jewel of the runningback class. Pratt fell through toward the end and Miles closed shop with Sam Montgomery on signing day.

Not only are Dural and Bourque friends, but Bourque's 1st cousin is another Breaux Bridge WR Kavahra Holmes. Holmes ran the fastest 400M time in the country this year as a junior.

Davante said in an interview that his cousin asked if Davante could get him noticed by Pat Henry. A&M has the best track program in the nation right now

Holmes ran a 46.3 400m. He won't need help to get noticed by anyone. He'll be able to pick his school. I don't know if he has a favorite or not, just that the idea of he and Bourque going to school together is possible.

He is a good prospect but a bit of a tweener. In another year, I am not so sure he would get an offer. I think he would be a good pickup but I don't know if he is truly either a WR or a RB. Time will tell. I am not going to stress this one.

I was just repeating what Davante said in an interview. He said his cousin youtube'd track and a bunch of A&M vids came up and he wanted to get in contact with their coaches.

I don't follow track recruiting much but I know it's rare for Pat Henry to give full scholarships

I'm with you on that Lynx, I'm more concerned about Phillips. Landing Bourque or not isn't as big a deal as not landing a great LB prospect like Phillips.

FTR the way I see the A&M approach is this. Offer as a RB, and switch him to WR once he gets on campus. You don't see many if any 6'3 RB's in College or the NFL, but he does get pretty low which is a plus.

I do think Hawkins is about to switch, and like I said earlier, Monroe will need to ball out at camps this summer to earn an LSU offer. Right now Raymond has the inside track of the CB offer, but Monroe could come in as an Athlete. I like that the staff is after several tall WR's this year, we need one since Randall leaves either this year or next, and Williams is still a project with loads of talent. So we need a 6'4 or 6'5 WR to compliment Landry, Wright, Boone, and Fobbs for the next few years.

Well if he plans on being on the football team he can't take the track scholarship in place of the football scholarship and participate on the football team.

I think his cousin is strictly track.

Yeah I wasn't sure. Thanks for the clarification.

A&M sees Bourque as a Rb all the way. I think they really like the T Williams Bourque combo.

Obviously if he doesn't work at rb he will get moved.

As for Hawkins its just a matter of time. He will not end up at A&M IMO.

I'm not confident with A&Ms RBs after Gray and Michael and it's possible they are both gone after this year.

A&M really wants Bourque at RB. We already have several other WRs (Bralon Addison, Momon, and Richardson off the top of my head)

I disagree, because his height is really unusual for a RB. In college he is a RB first year only IMO. Then he makes the move to WR or DB.

We already have a 6'2 RB that runs tall. Everybody has been saying for 2 years that he will be a LB. He will be in year 3 on campus next year and is still a RB. His name is Mister Jones.

The word is that our staff ranked Davante the #3 back on their board behind Trey Williams and Jon Gray so they are very high on him at RB

How much PT has Jones received and how much is he expected to receive this year?

I don't recall him playing at all. I would expect for him to be a special teams guy this year also.

He will be battling for 3rd string in the fall (I think as of now Ben Malena has the edge for the 3rd spot IIRC). Cyrus Gray has the starting job and Christine Michael is 1B

But, his name is Mister Jones. How badass is that for a name?

So the other 6'2 running back you used as an example has yet to get any meaningful carries and you don't expect him to any time soon?

You're right though, great name.
