Deadbrain Hollywood at it again: "The Bodyguard" remake in the works

Warner Bros is rebooting its 1992 hit The Bodyguard, the film that paired Kevin Costner with Whitney Houston and became for its time one of the biggest global hits in studio history with a $411 million worldwide gross.

The film will be scripted by Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer, whose action comedy script Family Getaway made the 2010 Black List and is a priority project at Warner Bros. Dan Lin will produce through his Lin Pictures banner, and Mark Bauch is co-producer.

I guess I shouldn't blame the producers, but the consumers. If no one went to see these "reboots" (clever way of saying unoriginal movies), then they would not get made. But who am I kidding... there's a guy in another thread considering dropping a pretty penny to see Big Momma 3 on his lunch break.
(edit for link)

I'm with you man.
American audiences get what they deserve.
This is also why Hollywood thinks that they are so smart and everyone thinks like them(or should).

$100 says they cast Channing Tatum in this piece of shite.

I want to flash forward about 50 years and see how many reboots there will be by that point.
Also, what franchises will have been rebooted the most times?

We should start a pool on the next regurgitation from Hollywood. My money is on Blade Runner or The Elephant Man.

If they know that they can make money doing this, why is it "deadbrain"?

Neither would be a bad idea.
I've long been a proponent of redoing some of the older science fiction movies using today's technology.
For example, I would LOVE to see a remake of The Black Hole.

I loved that movie growing up.
I think part of the charm though, was the effects, along with the actors involved.
To redo it might not necessarily make it better.

Precisely. They know they can make money without needing to be original. As I admitted in the original post, I blame consumers more than producers. Hollywood will only push the benchmark of originality to a certain degree-- particularly in a downtrodden economy. Why take risks that have no certain returns when you can bank on a product that has previously succeeded?
For those of us who look for original stories, we'll just have to count on the Indy market which hopefully will continue to find a growing niche in the plethora of people who understand the economics of Hollywood, but don't like being sold a used product.

Both would be terrible ideas.

People complain about studios being unimaginative but when someone actually does make a unique and original film 9 times out of 10 people bitch about it because its weird. Studios are the smart ones, its the consumers who are dumb.

Who is gonna sing I Will Always Love You?

Gaga will pop out of the male lead's chest Alien style and sing it.

Can you imagine if someone like Christopher Nolan or Darren Aronofsky got a their hands on Blade Runner? Could be pretty cool.
Since there is no end in sight for these stupid remakes, might as well go after some movies that, while they are classics, might benefit from an updating.....see True Grit for an example.

You would be correct.
The studios make a killing off the retards that see these reboots. I don't blame them one bit.
