KC Joyner, ESPN analyst has a very good article for all insider subscribers on merits of why JJ should remain the start next year. He gives some good stats behind his conclusion and is a worthy read. Below is link.

Cause he started previous 2 seasons...
If he performs like last year then no way in hell should he remain the starter...
If he plays like 2009 then that should be enough to fend off Mett/Lee

The stats he gives are based on JJ's YPA on passes of 11 yds or more over final 4 games of last season, and that # is better than likes of Colt Mccoy, Bradfort and Clausen over 6 game breakdown over each of their last 2 seasons.

Basing it on final 4 games is absurd... I could go through and cherry pick stats as well... Next season is completely different against different teams... Hell he could have cherry picked Lee's games and probably made a similar argument

The fact of the matter is, if Jefferson can play next season, like he played in the last few games this season, he's gonna be the starter. If he plays like he did at the beginning of last season, in the first few games of this upcoming season, then no way should he be the starter....................unless the other two guys are worse.

Well the question in my mind is which Jefferson will we see. Kids under a lot of pressure to be good consistantly. Pulling for whichever one can do the job.

Decision doesn't need to be made until after spring football, and fall camp ... worthless article.

If Jefferson plays like he played his first Bowl game then he will keep the job. If Shepard plays like he did in high school with his passing included then he will blah blah blah! Same argument could and should be made for Lee since he in my opinion was may more consistent and reliable then Jefferson this year! Jefferson's 3 yearsof play has been too inconsistent to be a starter at any high collegiate level. Now if if and if he improves under new OC and is the best then obviously the best should start! IF YOU WANT SENIORITY THEN JOIN THE ARMY!

I am not an ESPN Insider, so I did not read the article.

My own opinion after having watch JJ over the course of two seasons as the starter is that if he can't demonstrate during the spring and summer that he can CONSISTENTLY perform as he did in the last four games of 2010, then we should put ANYONE else in there.

Even if all you do is look at the last four games, JJ wasn't exactly setting the world on fire. The problem is that he was so horrific in his first nine that his average play in those last four seemed steller by comparison.

I'm not saying he shouldn't start, and I'm not saying he should. All I'm saying is NO ONE should be penciled in as the starter until the last two weeks of summer camp. Whoever WINS the job with stellar play in practices and scrimmages should start.

All I know is last year JJ stunk it up in the spring and didn't show much in the fall, yet he still started and the offense suffered. I just don't want to see that happen again. With Lee AND Mett now competing, the coaching staff should have more options at QB and not have to 'settle' for JJ just because he was the starter last year.

Both QBs suffered under GC's system, but JJ obviously fared a little better.

If he beats out Mett then he starts PERIOD...but if he doesn't earn it then I'll enjoy watching Mett play and maybe JJ in on some running plays or rollouts

Unlike most here, I think the coaches have a handle on the best option and I'm behind that choice.

not to nitpick, but he was actually pretty good vs. UNC. his numbers were pretty consistent with what he'd done over the last 5 or so games of 09. I think that's what kept him in so long when he started sucking, coaches probably thought that he'd return to something close to that first game form.

Jefferson basically played well 2.5 games out of the 13 played. He played well in the 2nd half of the Alabama game and pretty much the whole game against Ole Miss and A&M. That is 19% of the halves played. That is not going to get it done!

He IMO is physically talented, however he has trouble with decision making under pressure. That being said, his ability to run (sometimes when he should have passed) was the difference maker. When he was effective it was because he managed to make some plays with his feet to keep drives alive.

On the other hand, if you look at the games won and lost by LSU, the QB factor was basically neutral. Defense won the games we won and lost the games we lost. If you don't believe it, go back and review each game.

If Jefferson ever develops the ability to play well under pressure and make good decisions, he could be an All SEC player. Whether or not he can will be dependent on Kragthorpe.

And finally, there is still a question in my mind about how effective Jefferson is as a leader. I didn't see it, but I am not inside the program on a day-to-day basis. Contrast Jefferson and Newton. The difference is night and day. I for one hope Jefferson has a "coming out" year. Regardless of anything else, he has stuck it out in the face of adversity as has Lee. I am pulling for both of them. However if they perform like they have in the past, bring on Mettenberger!

Unfortunately for you, very, very few, very, very good major college head football coaches know WTF to start when they have a quarterback derby.

Hal Mumme, the inventor of the Air-Raid, screwed up & named Dusty Bonner the starter after Spring Ball once, only to rename Jared Lorenzen his starter coming out after 5 days of thinking.

Made Bonner transfer to Valdosta State.

Nick Saban couldn't figure out WTF to start in 2004. In case you don't remember, he had some QB issues here in 2000 between Booty & Davey, as well, though Davey's bum knee fixed that for him to a large extent.

Miles tried to start Hatch. Scratch that...he actually DID start Andrew Hatch. He offered the kid a scholarship. Forget whether that was Crowton's baby, Miles signed off on the birth certifcate!

Miles couldn't figure out what to do with his QB again this year, either...

Say what you want, but expressing any faith in our head coach in terms of what to do with the QB situation is extremely foolhardy. That's no sleight to him, either, as there are tons of head coaches who have and have had the same problems.

But sitting in front of my computer on The Rant somehow gives me all the insight to LSU QB development. Now that I have the Rant, I know more than Hal and Walsh put together.

Foolhardy is screaming on an internet board to start so and so. At least get on a radio show.
They'll start whoever can run the offense proficiently and safely, with emphasis on the latter thanks to a great D.

Worst QB in the NCAA but because he's good in bowl games with a month to prepare, we have to read crap like this all season.

The rest of the ncaa teams are HOPING we start JJ. Tiger fans have been tortured enough.

Yeah and Mark Lemke was a better hitter than Albert Pujols against lefties, on the road, in games played on Tuesday, after the all star break, when coming off a loss.
