I'm going to the Hornets/Wizards tomorrow night and would like to eat a late lunch somewhere close to the Arena.
Any ideas?

Overrated. I don't even have a suggestion, I just hate seeing people duped into going there.

I used to love Mother's but it has gone downhill. The Ferdi was tasteless last time I got it and the prices are too high for what you get.
You have Cafe adelade across the street, then Gordon Biersch, which are both really good. Plus you have good resturants in all the hotel bars in the area.

I agreed, very over rated. Hit up the food/drink board, I'm sure they'll have some good suggestions. Asking for a good place in NOLA to eat is too vague of a question. It depends what you are looking for, price, location...

I like to hit up Mandina's, Venezia or Jaun's flying burito before the games. It's real easy to get to the arena from there, just shoot down Canal to Claiborne. Not too much happening around the arena B4 games.

I'd highly recommend Domenica at the Roosevelt Hotel on Baronne - it's not too far from the arena. They have badass pizza at affordable prices, especially if you get there during happy hour.

Add Liuzza's and Katies to that list.
Both in Mid-City near Bienville and Jeff Davis.
ETA: Domenica....Nice Billy Mays.

That's not really close to the arena.
If you want something kinda nice, Cafe adelade or Palace Cafe on Canal (not too bad a walk) are both the cheaper Brenan's resturants, and don't have dress codes.
There are many really good local-type grill and Bars in the Warehouse district. Lucy's for one.
Also to be honest the food in the arena itself is pretty good. They have legit fried seafood in the arena and if you can get into club the choices are even better.
If you just want a quick poBoy Mother's isn't bad, but just too expensive for what you get compared to Domilise's and Parkway(the two best PoBoy shops). They also have other things.
Thats area of the CBD has a lot of choices, so the only way to answer your question is to know what kind of food you want and price range.

We always go to Charbar at the Ambassador Hotel. Easy to get to. Corner of Poydras and Tchoupitoulas. I've never had a bad meal there. Average prices. Cool atmosphere.

Only if you're a tourist and like subpar food for the price and wait.

Luke's would be great. They have an awesome burger and have happy hour from 3 to 6 for 1/2 priced oysters and drinks.

It is definitely not THAT overrated. It's just overrun by tourists and a little pricey. Solid sandwiches. The Ferdie is very good.
However, you can also go to Reginelli's on Poydras and it's closer to the Arena. As well as Horinoya sushi.
ETA: There's another decent pizza place on Baronne just one block off Poydras. Luke's and Herbsaint, both on St. Charles, are nicer restaurants but very good.
Lucy's sucks badly and is much further away in the Warehouse District.
