Outside the Lines question

Since Miles has come into the picture for Michigan, I have been reading a lot of stuff on this incident on some Michigan message boards.
Considering the fact that this entire week it took about 400 different tries before ESPN got it right with Harbaugh, and various other reports that have come out that have been iffy,I wanted your guys' take on the situation.
I've heard two versions to this, one being he over signed, found someone better, and cut the kid to bring in the better kid. The other that the kid gained 15-20 pounds, was lazy during practice and was dismissed because he wasn't cutting it anymore.
Just wondering your guys' take on it, or what your local media reported.
Thanks!

not really sure. Seems really out of character for Les, but the kid looked really sincere and believable on Outside the Lines

Both versions are correct...
one was an OL thaht he asked to Grayshirt since more than he thought quaified...
the other was a QB that had shite for a work ethic
shite happens when you have a national recruiting presence..

Which player are you talking about? Chris Garrett?
Lazy, ate himself off the team. Where is he playing now?
ETA: forgto about the OL.......Les over signed and every single person qualified including some that were not expected. Unfortunate situation. Kid got a raw deal. He was offered a gray shirt if he wanted it. He shopped himself around and got a schollie at another SEC institution. Les released him unconditionally.

That report made us look horrible but here's the deal.
LSU will recruit as many players as possible, the players know this. When they sign up they know they are not guaranteed a spot on the team; yet they still come to play here. That isnt something on Miles personally, its on the players that dont make the cut

red flag #1 was CG telling the staff the season before he wasn't ready to compete.
zoom to the offseason Chris has put on a lot of weight and is being outshined in offseason workouts by an incoming freshmen. The staff again tries to reach out and motivate him, chris elects to pout.
Trust me if we were going to trim fat (pun intended) on our roster it wasn't going to be at the qb position. Chris isn't on the team due to his own decision making.

If you had an oportunity to watch the end of the Cotton Bowl, 2 LSU recruits that ended up at aTm found Les in the crowd and gave him a hug. That speeks volumes.

Thats what I figured, but I just wanted your guys' take on it as well. Just to hear both sides of the argument. The SEC is a different breed from the Big 10, things get done differently down here and I guess from what I've read some people don't like that. I understand that they want Michigan to win the right way, and I agree with that wholeheartedly, but some of the crap I've read that people are saying (calling Miles morals into question because of it) is uncalled for.
I don't think this should be a deciding factor for Michigan. Thanks for the input!

pick any program, any coach, any sport, ask enough people and you can create a story like this

Like you said, its different down here.
SEC football is a business. And a very successful one, to be good you have to do somethings that others may not like

Are you talking about Chris Garrett or Elliot Porter? Chris Garrett was the 3rd string QB on a team which did not have a QB for most of the season. That should tell you something.
Re: Elliot Porter
Jakhari Gore from Miami, who was not expected to clear because his academics were in question cleared in August and unfortunately brought up the numbers over the limit (25). And Les Miles had to offer Porter a gray shirt with the opportunity to get a scholarship the next year. It was the only time he has done that in the 6 years he has been here, and unfortunately he got a lot of negative publicity.
As far as you Michigan fans are concerned, seriously get off your high-horse and stop acting like UM invented football. I don't know what's more aggravating - your fricking, clueless AD who believes in carrying a coaching search a month before signing day - or your fanbase, which is under the illusion that the Michigan job is so coveted that they should get the ghost of Bo Schembechler to come back and coach them back to greatness. I now despise you more than Notre Dame.

Agreed. There are two sides to every story and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

I seriously hope this isn't directed at me. I was simply asking a question after reading several things on Michigan blogs. Wanted to see what you guys had to say about it.
I'm pretty level headed about our program. I know we aren't what we used to be. Thats obvious based on these two coaching searches. As far as our AD goes, none of us can control him so, it's not really our fault.

All schools oversign by a couple kids because usually not all kids qualify or make it to campus. Les was in a pickle this year when all recruits were able to make to to campus.
I dont think this is typical for Les, he's a man of good character and Im sure it killed him to have to juggle kids around a bit.

It wasn't. But living in Chicago, I run into my share of Michigan fans...and they are more delusional, grandiose fricks than Notre Dame fans. None of those fans are even entertaining the notion that the Michigan job is not what it used to be, not even close.

Believe me, you don't know Michigan fans like I do
. I work with a Michigan grad who regularly questions Les Miles sanity and his coaching. They would do well to find a coach like him. Not to mention, their AD has turned this coaching search into such a spectacle just so everybody can just keep speculating on TV, holding recruits and the whole world hostage...and for what?
IMO, Michigan is not even a top 10 coaching job anymore.

The Lineman was an oversigning casualty but its not like Les was signing 30-35 players. He signed one or two over the max thinking a few of the guys on the bubble wouldn't make the grade. They worked hard and made it. You ask the player now and he wishes he'd have stuck with LSU.
The QB was not an oversigning casualty...it was a lazy QB that didn't want to compete.
Les is a solid coach and a good man. He's quirky obviously and says some stupid shite from time to time but you will love him and his results.

Read up on Saban's history of oversigning.
College football in the SEC is the highest form of competition.
Compared to outright paying players, oversigning seems relatively harmless.
