What makes McNeese so great? Just curious, not trying to be an arse.
I'm not saying McNeese athletics are even remotely comparable to LSU, but from what I've seen by going to both schools, McNeese is like a much smaller version of LSU. McNeese tailgates well for it's size, our attendance is consistently in the top 20 of the FCS schools, and we have a passionate fan base. Plus having the second-winningest program in the state next to LSU, as well as competing for a national championship every year (albeit, FCS championship) as opposed to schools like ULL and Tulane who don't have much of a shot of winning a national championship even in undefeated years, is pretty nice. I guess though I'm mostly a fan because I went there for a few years and decided to make the most of my time there by getting involved with the school.
But so as not to hijack the thread, screw Tulane and

I don't, but I still love LSU. In order for me to hate Tulane, it would mean that I cared about them, which I don't because they're irrelevant.

I have classmates who go to McNeese so I don't hate them. But I was born and raised a Tiger so LSU is my home.

Who cares what Tulane fans think?

Yada, Yada, Yada ... Huge rivalry in the past when majority of Tulanians were from the local area, then they went for the Ivy League rejects and voila! There you have it.

What Tulane fans? I am a LSU fan, but I enjoy Tulane too. Tulane's problem is that very few Louisianians attend school there. The student body does not support their teams. Tulane football needs to recruit more kids from Louisiana if it expects to regain some respect. It is very hard to get fans to root for kids who have no roots here whatsoever.

I hope Tulane could get on a level that they can keep the instate recruits we don't want, instead of teams like Tulsa, Houston, Minnesota, TCU, Colorado etc.. Now I hear Pittsburgh with Haywood wants to make a home here recruiting Louisiana kids.

My brother is dating a Tulane grad, and she's been, IMO, "brainwashed" to loathe LSU by her family because "most of the fanbase didn't even attend the university." My responses include what many have already stated:
-It's the flagship university of Louisiana.
-More Louisianaians can relate to LSU than Tulane because a higher percentage of out-of-towners attend Tulane; therefore there is a sense of disconnect, even from NOLAers, to Tulane.
-LSU is much more accessible to watch on TV, listen on the radio, and even attend games.
-The Tulane teams, for the most part, are subpar to LSU's teams; therefore, it is much more enjoyable to be a part of LSU's success.
-Jokingly, I tell her, "Those are some cute witttle pwayers for Tuwane. They are soooo adowabwle. I almost feel sorry for the arse beating they are about to receive." The key word is almost.

Why do they hate LSU so much.
That's all they have to live for.

I have seen it first hand .. guys who grew up huge LSU fans and marry into Tulane families and now can not stand them for the reason that I mentioned. They say that they have seen the light and have no idea how they could have pulled from them earlier in life.
This is one of the stupidest things i have ever read on here. Most of the Tulane fans that hate LSU aren't even Tulane alums. It's alot more simple some NOLA people grew up liking Tulane....LSU owns Tulane....which breeds hatred and jealousy.

I would say the New Orleans area is about 5% Tulane, 15% other schools, and the rest LSU. You have to remember that 75% of Tulane's students are from greater than 500 miles away. It doesn't bother me at all, I like having Tulane in New Orleans.

FWIW, most of the people that tend to talk down on LSU and pump tulane are the older crowds.

Oldest rivalry in Louisiana, and one of the oldest in sports. It is fading with each generation though. I would bet its older guys (40+) if Im guessing.

Yep! usually 40 and older. I don't think I have met one young Tulane fan to be honest.

Virginia is very similar to Louisiana in this situation. Everybody in Virginia is a Virginia Tech fan - it is the big state school. UVA, where I went for undergrad, has a small (relative to the size of the school and alumni base) fanbase that cares more about getting drunk and having a good time than watching a game. Don't get me wrong, Virginia Tech fans care a lot about getting drunk, but they pay attention at football games. VT is a football school.
UVA football, like Tulane football, can be tough to follow. Who likes to see their team lose more than they win?
When I picked a grad school, I wanted to go to a fun school with a good football program, which is one of the reasons I went to LSU.

I am at a loss as to why Tulane is still perceived to be "superior" academically to LSU.
Because their """""""""""ENTRANCE""""""""""" requirements are higher (that is higher ACT/SAT scores) - that somehow follows that the ENTIRE Tulane University is superior to the ENTIRE Louisiana State University???
Because you have to score higher on the SAT to be accepted at Tulane, that means Tulane is "better???" Skunk Poop.....
How are Ph.D Professors teaching at a building on St. Charles Avenue in N.O. automatically superior to Ph.D Professors teaching the same courses with the same texts at a building on Highland Road in B.R. ?????
How? Explain that to me please.
And they say: "uh, weeellll, Tulane's class sizes are smaller." Oh no, they're not. Actually LSU's upper level classes and grad classes are average size or smaller than any other university - private or public.
If you open LSU's catalogue - there are pages upon pages listed in the Faculty Section - they are """""""""""ALLLLLLLL""""""""""" Ph.Ds - from "AAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL over the world."
Furthermore, LSU runs circles around Tulane as far as research, grants, funding, projects, etc.
LSU is a Tier I level institution, just like Tulane; and has Top Five programs in: Petroleum Engineering, Veterinary Medicine, Landscape Architecture, and Top 30 Programs in Agribusiness, Entrepreneurial Science, Hurricane Meteorology, Music & Dramatic Arts, MBA Program,
Geophysics, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and many others.
LSU also has one of the premiere Academic Centers for Student-Athletes on the planet.
Tulane likes to label themselves as the "Harvard of the South." Yeah, ok. Tell me another fairy story.
