How far should a HS and D1 qb be able to throw a football?

On the high school and college levels, what ranges are normal and what's good?
I was just curious. Guy at work and I have a difference of an opinion. Obviously it's a metric that isn't very important, but is interesting.

Somewhat accurately or just chucking it up?

Just chucking/pure velocity. Accuracy is more subjective.

Standing up or from his knees? Because, we all know that throwing from your knees is a key ability.

Good HS prospects 45+
Good college prospects 55+

I've seen Paul Turner throw it 55-60 in the air and he has 0 shot at playing QB at LSU.

FYI: I had my HS range at 45-55, and added 15 yards for college.

some could just be better at another position... plus it's not like they couldn't be used in an emergency.
then again college rosters could be trimmed IMO. if NFL has 45 on the gameday roster FBS college sure doesn't need almost double the scholarships.

This is more like it. A good High School prospect 55-60 yards. After 2-3 years in college 65-80 yds. This strength ensures he can throw a deep out (30 yds or so), a deep come back and a 20-25 yard dig on a line...no arc.

there arent many college kids that can throw a ball 70-80 yards

I know many schools where multiple QB's are in this range. 70 yards is common in college.
