I shot this gun once as per request of my business partner who owned it. Nearly blew my arse outta the stand. The 9 point victim dropped like a box of rocks. Way too much gun for me.

I can't imaging what the meat looked like after taking a round from that gun.

I don't shoot rifles too terribly often so the hardest kicking is my Mossberg 835 with 3.5" Turkey load.

Gave me a headache.

Next would be 7mm Mag.

Funny story about 7mm Mag. My wifes uncle who is 5'6" and maybe 140lbs got one for deer hunting. He had never shot one. I warned him to not shoot that gun in a ladder tree stand. He acted like it wasn't that big of a deal because he had shot a .30-06 in an Auto.

I told him to do what he wanted but just remember that I warned him. Well, he was out trying to site the gun in and shot it. He never told me this but his brother (my FIL) told me that he only shot it once because it bloodied his nose. He sold it right after that.

really is amazing how your ears don't ring near as much when shooting an animal.

I don't hear it while shooting . . . it's just that later you get that ringing that just won't stop.

It wasn't much different from any other round. It was right behind the shoulder @ 90-100 yards. But Jesus that caliber has some knock down energy...at both ends. It's no fun to shoot. The only other caliber more punishing to the shooter would be a .416 Rigby and I ain't going there.

The first time I shot an old school muzzle loader I thought you had to put the same amount of gun powder as in rifle bullets. I loaded the ML with 120 grains of powder. I didn't want to shoot it again.

My AR SBR is loud as hell. 11.5" barrel. Shooting indoors will give you a massive headache.

I was at the gun range and a couple of guys next to me were shooting an AR, not sure of the configuration and with just a covered roof it was so loud it actually hurt my ears. MUCH louder than my .338

Hardest kicking gun/loudest gun
What is your experiences.

MOST RECOIL --

Went with a friend to his range, about ten years ago.

Among other stuff, he brought a .460 Wby & a .378.

The .378 was really disturbing -- worse than the .460.

I expect it was because the recoil from the .460 just seemed like it was spread out over a longer time, and it felt more like a giant -- REALLY, REALLY giant -- push.

But the .378 was very abrupt. It felt harder, and sharper, and it really rattled my brains. One round was enough.

I've never had much of a problem with any of the .30's, even though some of them are pretty stout. And a seven-pound .45-70 really wants to move around, when you press the trigger. But the .378 is in a completely different league.

I might fire that .460 again, in an emergency.

But I'm not ashamed to state, for the record, that I am AFRAID of the .378 Weatherby.

LOUDEST --

In my experience: 7 Mag.

But there are some that might be worse -- I've never had a chance to fire a rifle with a muzzle brake.

I've shot the 378 WBY as well, its simply amazing the difference in recoil between it and the 375 H&H.

When I had my custom Weatherby built I chose the 416 because the 378 kicked so abruptly...
