The Baton Rouge Rugby Club will be hosting a Gumbo Contest charity fundraiser to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge. The Contest will be on Friday, November 26, 2010 from 11-5 at the Varsity Theatre in Baton Rouge.
For those that think your gumbo is the best, feel free to enter. The divisions will be seafood-based gumbo and sausage-based gumbo, with brackets for amateurs ($25) and professionals ($50). The entry fee covers rice, tasting cups, and spoons. Winners will be chosen by a blind taste test from special guest judges, featuring some local sports legends.
For those that just want to taste the delicious gumbo (and watch the Iron Bowl on the big screen), a $10 donation at the door lets you taste and vote for the people's choice award.

I'm in. How do we enter? Where will the gumbo be cooked? Bring your own equipment?

To enter send an email to RedfishRugby@gmail.com, and I will forward you the flyer and registration form. The reason that it is called a contest an not a cook-off is that the contestants have the option to reheat OR cook the day of - there will be space available behind the Varsity to cook starting at 8am.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

I would pre-cook. Gumbo is always better the next day, slowly re-heated of course. I would cook the rice on site only.

I was actually just worried about how much time I had. My gumbo is a very long and arduous process.

I had actually thought about doing it the night before and using a scoop to have some presentation in there, but you might be right about that. I might need to rethink that one.
