there are worse calls than LSU-Georgia 2009..
The entire Auburn Series when at Auburn comes to mind.

yes the auburn call on the extra point is a prime example of the sec homeboys at their best. That was the first time that call was ever made and the last.

How '06 Auburn is not on the list is beyond me

quote:no shite. everyone focuses on the last play but there were about 5 calls in that game that were drive killers or took points off the board.

hell Brandon lafell was about to catch a touchdown pass before halftime and David irons shoves him in the back and kicks his feet out from underneath him about 8 feet away from an official that watched him do it and didn't throw a flag.

Agreed. Auburn refs cost LSU a possible SECC in '04 and a possible NC in '06.
'04 Blatantly obvious that everyone not wearing purple and yellow in that stadium, on the sidelines, in the pressbox, and wearing zebra suits, made up this once-in-a-lifetime call. I was mad at the world the rest of that season.
'06 How does one call PI, then pick up the flag and say there was no PI, because the ball was tipped????
Doucet was somersaulted from under his feet from behind 10 MINUTES before the ball was 'tipped'
In fact, the REASON he had jumped was that the ball was getting ready to hit him in the stomach!
And, as has been previously mentioned, there were AT LEAST 5 OTHER CALLS that were total BS. The creme de la creme was the non-pass interference call on Lafell in the right corner of the end zone right before halftime.
The ball was headed directly for his chest, but
Irons rape-tackled him A YEAR before the ball got there, 2 1/2 centimeters from the Referee's pupils. No call.
Almost destroyed myself a television set on that one.

some nights I wake up in a cold sweat to steve beuerlein's voice repeating "wow, auburn really got away with one there." over and over and over and over and over again.

Wasn't the PP7 INT at Bama, not at LSU?

AUBURN 2006 AND 2004!!!!!!!!!!

The UGA call was absurd but does not belong on the list. First of all regardless of where the kickoff was made you got a great return. Second, if you insist on playing the "what if" game, Scott scores just as easily if the run is from 15 yards further out. Third (And this really should have been mentioned in the article to have an accurate accounting) the refs "gave" UGa the same opportunity with the same absurd call against Scott(who was gesturing to his own fans) and the LSU defense stopped them cold. The two Auburn games should be on the list instead. Also, IMO, had Les not had the Ole Mrs meltdown the following week, the Peterson play at 'Bama would be higher on the list.

That Florida-Arkansas call was pretty bad now that I see it again. There was an "obvious" push by the refs to help Alabama and Florida get to the title game that season.

Actually, after the penalty, with Georgia kicking from their own 20, the Georgia kicker essentially "outkicked" his coverage. He kicked it to the LSU 15 yard line, which is pretty deep. Georgia could not stop the return.
But they also had multiple chances to tackle Scott from the 40 on the TD run.

Yeah, not being a homer here, but that game really has no business being in anyone's top 100. It really wasn't that bad of a call. He wasn't just happy...the video cuts off where the celebrating player is motioning to the crowd. But whatever. LSU Auburn 2006 was exponentially worse, in substance and procedure. What about Cal-Stanford (The Band is on the Field Game) where at least one Cal ball carrier's knee was clearly down long before the play was over.
What contributed more to UGA's loss was UGA's inability to field any players who could tackle Chuck. That's the real concern here. It's not like he ran from the 5 yard line...there were layers of scholarship athletes who couldn't get off blocks, were out of position, or straight up made a bad attempt at tackling him.
And the game lacked any national significance whatsoever.

The 09 LSU vs. Georgia one is so overblown. When they kicked off, it was received around the 20 and ran back to midfield. They also missed tackling Scott on his rather nice long run into the endzone. The same stupid call was made on LSU in that score. Georgia just didn't capitalize.
