gave 5 Guys burgers a try yesterday

how incredibly average
burger was decent, but considering i spent 11 bucks for bacon cheeseburger, regular fries and a drink, i expected a burger bigger than a BK double
place is too cramped and loud as well. i really dont get lining up to get one

Five Guys is what it is, premium fast food burgers. Fresh ingredients cooked right in front of you and the fries are either awesome or terrible depending on how you like your fries. I'd rather spend $11 at Five Guys than BK, but that doesn't mean it's the best burger on the planet by a long shot.

It's really just about supporting a well produced business. The burgers, fries, everything are made with fresh ingredients (real fresh ingredients, not the kind Subway claims to use). They also spend no money on advertisement and put that money toward paying their employees more. And in comparison to competing fast food burgers, they are supreme. Unless you just prefer the fake, microwaved taste of frozen food made by minimum wage paid workers who don't care enough about the food to assemble it correctly. It's not gourmet food or atmosphere, but it's miles ahead of the rest in its market.

That's one way to look at it.
But I prefer this vantage point...
1. Pick up phone
2. Call Capital City Grill or Mason's and order a burger
3. Go pick up food without waiting in line. Spend $10 with a $1.50 tip to the hostess or bartender
4. Pat myself on the back for supporting a real local place, saving a $1.00, and not waiting in a line.

I want to try Five Guys for one reason and thats because of the hype it's gotten on here by some posters. I imagine my opinion without even trying the product will be similar to the OP. It's a fast food burger. You can only expect so much. And I hate waiting in line to do anything. Dem shite better be good if I am.

It's ok. For the same price, I would rather call Portobello's across the street for a really good burger cooked to temperature on a great bun with cheddar, swiss, or bleu not American cheese.

How many places are you spending less than 7 bucks for lunch to begin with. I hear more complaining on this board about prices but unless you want to eat the dollar menu every day, you will have to pay some money to eat some decent food.

I think its the herd mentality that drives people, especially young people, to the chains. There is peer safety in doing what everyone else is doing. Being your own person means eating what you like, not what everyone else likes. Conversely, when I was young my tastes had not matured and I really liked a lot of chain garbage, Steak 'n Ale seemed like a real treat. Now the only time I eat at chains is for speed and convenience, or if I'm traveling through Alabama.
5 Guys did not plan their business model to attract me, I'm sure they are not offended.

I don't get why diners pay a premium for this place, have eaten there 3x and it was just very average, one time it flat out was lame. For $13 I would much prefer to go to Houston's and get the hickory burger with canadian bacon or cook a chuck burger at home.

Its a really good burger IMO. Are there better? Sure
I just don't think you can get a better burger for the price. It does get more pricey once you add fries and drink but no one is putting a gun to your head.

My bill with fries and a drink at Portobello's across the street is just about the same as Five Guys FWIW. Same at Dempsey's, even when subbing onion rings for fries.

I concur...I typically hate taking home food. I live just around the corner though so taking Portobello's burger home, eating at the bar, or taking it into the cigar shop in Towne Center is my usual go-to.

its okay.... way to freaking expensive compared to getting a good burger other places that is much bigger....
I just go to Mugshots.... i get whatever burger i want, i love the fries and a beer or two for i think @15.... It was happy hour for the last LSU game drank 1.75 beer on tap all day and it wasn't relegated to bud light and coors light

It has nothing to do with whether or not there are cheaper options; it has to do with whether or not there are better QUALITY options.
When you're paying the SAME price for fast food as you are for fresh, local ingredients, why would you get fast food at all?
I'll admit, I get McDonald's from time to time. I'm not saying I am anti-fast-food 100%.. I just don't see why someone would spend $11 and stand in line for a product they carry elsewhere that is made from local and fresh ingredients and much better quality.
