Did anybody else notice Newton get the snap and just stand there?

I rewatched the game, and I noticed on over a dozen snaps Newton would get the ball on an obvious QB run play and just stand there like he was in a passing formation. He stood there and waited to see which of our guys got put on their arse, then he would run through that hole 3-4 seconds later. Damn, we had everybody playing horizontal bullshite "contain" don't attack defense the whole game even though they were running all over us!!!

He is patient. He waits for the blocks to happen. You can do that when the D-Line is unable to put any pressure on you the entire day.

Mark Ingram does the same thing. He's patient and waits for the proper opportunity.

This is what makes the spread so effective.
With 4 WRs, and a safety back, you can only put 6 in the box, which means you can only really have a 4 man line. Any more than a 4 man line, and once hes past it, its a TD. Heck, that even happened with 2 LBers a few times.
If we stack the line with 5 or 6 and he gets through or around the end, its 7 every time.

Our worry all year is that our d-line is smaller than it has been in recent years. Alabama for the first time is a mismatch up front. We have to bring pressure all night. Whether that is run-blitzes or when we can get them in obvious passing situations.

Im glad someone on here realizes that the solutions are not so simple as load the box or blitz the house. The bottom line is Auburn has a very good offensive system and have recruited the right people for that system.

Yep, which is why putting extra guys in the box would've helped to attack him instead of letting him attack the defense all fricking day.
eta: We should have gotten out of the Nickel until AU proved they could pass on us.

I thought maybe he was posing for pictures
Had we runblitzed he wouldn't have been able to do that.

Not to mention some of the poorest tackling I've seen this side of Malleveto. Newton himself commented post-game about " a lot of missed tackles" by LSU that Auburn had not seen on film. In other words he was surprised by the poor tackling display.

I would have rathered Cam try passing against Claiborne and PP than run for a mile on us...I'll take our CB's in that matchup.

chavis put together one of the worst gameplans for an LSU defense in decades.
and he refused to make adjustments.
Chavis lost the game for us and lost faith in the players.
You simply cannot be so ill prepared for such a big game.

you want to run blitz with 4 down linemen and 2 linebackers, who is gonna be doing the blitzing?
you'd be leaving entire thirds of the field uncovered

We had a horrible defensive game plan plain and simple.

In decades? Doug Mallory says hello. As does Lou Tepper @ home against UGA and well pretty much every game of his career. Have some perspective you over dramatic bitch.

Pellini twice and Saban a time or two, and Carl Reese said hi!
And there teams didn't even come close to holding team to 24.
Now, I hate the yards to, but to call it the worst in decades is not correct.

We should have forced him to pass on us, they would have gone 3 & out so many times he would have gone more cross-eyed

The gameplan was poor and Auburn ran all over us, but I wouldn't go that far. Considering Auburn's strong offense and weak defense, holding them to 24 points should be enough. Too many 3 and outs on offense killed us.
