Question about the bias of SEC refs

I'm really confused.
Reading the things that many of you guys post, I should believe that the refs are biased for Auburn.
However, last year after the Alabama game and the PP non-interception, it was that the refs were bias for Alabama.
Or are you guys saying that the SEC refs are biased for both Auburn and Alabama? If so, how the frick does that make any sense? You are saying that refs that want Alabama to win also want Auburn to win???
Please help clear up my confusion. Thanks in advance.

1. The SEC offices are in Alabama.
2. The SEC wants the team with the best chance to go to the MNCG to win because it enhances the SEC brand. If we are undefeated on the last week of the season you may even see refs giving us the breaks over Arkansas.

I dont necessarily buy into the ref bias, but I think the SEC has a vested interest in getting 2 teams in the BCS every year, including the national title game

Not if you think the bias is more subliminal than actual a conscious type thing.
I'm not one who thinks there's really "bias" by the way, submiminal or otherwise.

I think it's because of a pattern of obviously horrendous calls vs. Alabama schools. It always seems to favor them. That's what leads to the conclusion that it must be intentional. When in fact it's just really horrible calls that "just by chance" always happen to go the way of the Alabama schools.

Has anyone ever done a statistical analysis to determine if the Alabama schools truly do get a disproportionate amount of calls??? Or is this "pattern" just something that people spout without anything to truly back up their claim?

The SEC offices are in Birmingham, Alabama.
Most of the conference's referees live in (or are from) the state of Alabama.
You do the math.
I don't think there is "blatant cheating" by the SEC refs, but I do think there is certainly a natural human bias that at times rears its head on questionable calls.

Check out how many offensive holding calls have gone against Alabama the last two years.
No need to look any further. If that's not enough evidence of SEC bias, then I don't know what is.

Can someone point me to the stats that show the offensive holding calls of every team in the SEC?
I will run statistical analyses on the data to see if there really is an issue.

There is probably a callable holding call on every Mark Ingram run. If they call half of them he doesnt win the Heisman last year. The Heisman is good for the league so they get the calls.

Most of the reasons already given may have some merit, but to add....the call usually goes to the undefeated team, as it may get the SEC into the NC game.

Yes. They want both to win until they play each other.
Several SEC Refs have homes and large loans from Colonial Bank and Regions Bank.
Bobby Lowder and Colonial Bank want to make sure Auburn always wins and the same goes for Regions Bank and Alabama. Direct conflict of interest if you ask me...

I doubt anyone provides you with the stats you want. I would, but I'm lazy.
But I'd like to add that I think someone found out one of the booth replay officials for the Bama LSU game last year was a Bama graduate. I'm sure that influenced the Peterson interception.
Auburn LSU 2006 is the only game I've ever felt was fixed, multiple blown calls. Not sure by who or how, but it was fixed.
