For the people saying Crowton sucks...

I hope you realize, he is not the person calling the plays. Miles is. Les also called the plays last year.

Again with this? Really??? How do you know this?

It's a bad situation all around.
My take on it, and I think Gordy and co. are right. Miles puts Crowton in a box, and I think the reason he puts him in a box is because JJ is horrible. If he lets Crowton out of the box, you're going to see a ton of turnovers.
Between the three of them, it's going to be a long year.

Yeah, how do you know?

No matter who calls the plays, there is conflict in styles that results in poor performance.

Been saying this since last year, but I copied this from my post this Sunday.
quote:
It's quite obvious, Miles has most of the influence on the offense. Gordy Rush and Charles Hannegriff were making that point pretty strongly last night. Those guys have off the record access to all of the coaches. If they say it, I believe it.
The point is this, Miles might not call in every single play, but from Sunday-Friday, Les Miles explains exactly what he wants run from our offense. In a 3rd and 9 situation, it's real easy for Miles to say over his head set, "Keep the ball on the ground here." He's the head coach, his $4 million dollar job is on the line, and he's going to win or lose his way!

Mike Bellotti (former longtime Oregon HC) recently said on ESPN that he coached with Crowton at Oregon and what he sees at LSU is NOT a Gary Crowton offense. this garbage arse "O" at LSU has Les Miles written all over it. BTW, I don't have a link.

If so, why has he been sticking around?

You don't read/listen/watch enough LSU football. This has been proven...Crowton is calling the plays.

Whatever the real scenario is it may be moot at this point.
I can't see Crowton being around after this year. Depending on the final record, either he and Miles will both be gone or just Crowton will be.
Then again, you never really know how these things will play out lately.

I hope you know Crowton is the one who is designing the plays.
Whoever is calling the option play should be fired on the spot!

Crowton's offense is complicated. The WR & QB both have to make reads on every pass attempt. Basically JJ has no clue what route the receiver is going to run. This is one of the reasons the ball is always late getting out of his hands.
Miles and Crowton have cut the playbook down to make it easier on JJ and would probably love to only have to throw the ball 10-15 times a game.
I'm in the camp that JL is probably the better option in the passing game, but I think that Miles was prepared for an anemic passing offense this year.

Doesn't matter. If that is the case then it means we have a head coach and an OC that are not on the same page and do not share the same philosophy on how to run the offense. So either way it is a bad combination.

This.
Can you honestly say this is the same style of play calling we had a few years back? Definitely not to me regardless of who the QB is.

1. The offense of the last two years does not even resemble anything that Crowton has done in his first years here, at Oregon, at the Bears, at BYU nor at LA Tech.
2. Miles is known to meddle with his coordinators before. Jimbo could clearly be heard on TV screaming from the pressbox during his last Arky game, "run the **#&$ play I called."
What do you have to controvert this? Nothing.

I know this almost for a fact as well... still doesn't change the fact that he can't develop a QB.

Miles and Crowton realized after two failed years that the playbook was to much for both JL and JJ. They sat down with the entire coaching staff and have agreed that they don't need to throw the ball around the field with our D and Special Teams. It sucks to watch the talent on the field have to suffer, but it's what we have been dealt with.
