i hope i don't get blasted for this, but it's late and i'm working the night shift at a refinery and i was thinking: if/when chris ivory comes back, and he gets a nice share of the workload at RB and blows up, dothe saints consider getting rid of pierre thomas in an attempt to fill a hole on the DL or LB corps?? just food for thought, not saying i want to see PT go, but it is a business..

and to being 2-0

Pierre is a bigger part of the offense than Reggie is

No need to blast the OP yall. I've actually thought of this exact scenerio also. There's always a "what if" and we all need to consider it. If Ivory can produce on the level that he did in training camp and preseason, and probably most importantly PROTECT BREES, then there's no reason to not give him consideration to be next year's starter. Pierre is going to want BIG money. We need LBs badly and that could be money used to getting a top notch one.

I want Pierre here as much as the next guy but if you have a better, younger horse in the stable, you use THAT one. We play in the "now" fellas.

thank you cdaniel... i wasn't trying to knock PT's ability, because over the past two seasons he's proved himself to me.. i just think his style of running is pretty vanilla and rarely breaks tackles. however, he gets the job done.. but if Ivory can do all the things PT can do, and do it for less money, then i think PT becomes expendable (sp) and maybe we can cash him in for something that will shore up our D line or LB corps...

you should be flogged, tarred and feathered, and buried up to your head in a red ant pile for even thinking such thoughts. Pierre is a Saint my friend, and here to stay...the next "Deuce" in my opinion.....

Yeah, I don't want to see Pierre go, but if and like you said, it's a BIG if, Ivory played at PTs level, I have no problem letting him go to save some money.

Ivory will only have 3 weeks at best to blow it up before the trade deadline, certainly not enough to base such a decision on.

Second, we are down to 2 usable RBs as it is, are ya suggesting going back to 2?

If I was trade dreaming I would offer a WR for commensurate return. That or P-Rob.

if you had 4 chickens and needed a goat, would you be willing to part ways with one of your chickens?

this was my original point... would hate to see him go, but if we get similar production at a cheaper price, it would make sense

do you even watch the games? thomas rarely breaks tackles? gtfo.

lets not annoint chris ivory yet either. what exactly impressed you about his 3.5 ypc performance this past preseason? yeah, he had a nice catch and run against some guys playing arena league but you telling me this guy can come in and play the receiving back role better than thomas? cmon now.

just for comparison sake, pt avg 5.7 ypc his first year here during preseason along with having 6 catches for 95 yards.

no diat150, i NEVER watch games.. in fact i make it a point to be sleeping when they are on and then run to the rant and post the first thing that comes to my head... thomas's running style is very bland, he is not shifty and yes, he rarely breaks tackles.. so paying someone to do the same thing at a cheaper price makes a lot of sense to me

ETA: boise state is NOT the people's champs

Maybe

he is not shifty

Who in the NFL actually is shifty though? I think the last RBs that were consistent starting running backs that were shifty were LT, Dunn, and Ricky Williams. And they were only shifty in their prime. Shifty doesn't necessarily make you a good RB.

he rarely breaks tackles

He moves the pile and he falls forward. That's good enough for me. He's also proven to be a chain mover on swing and screen passes as he has good vision and knows how to set up blocks.

These are all things that get overlooked when evaluating a RB. Sure he might not be Barry Sanders but flashy isn't everything.

you bring up good points.. maybe i'm just too trade happy.... that being said, i wouldn't be upset if PT retired a saint, as long as his production doesn't decrease.. i was just thinking about the $$$
