And don't get me started on the contribution of NCAA football in this fricked up equation...
now there's an interesting angle when you consider some of the 3-5 year NFL guys took over half of their abuse in college ball......

It was no big deal. The players are trying to show union and good faith and the owners are trying to squeeze all they can from the cash cow. It's a lock out planned by the owners. I hope they have REALLY good P.R. people. They are going to need them.

+100000 to everything you've posted in this thread.
I can't believe how some ppl have no idea wtf is going on with this situation. Nobody cares until football isn't around next year and we're all sittin on our asses going WTF happened.

i'm going back to boycotting espn.
this is the first time i have watched it in over 2 months or so.. and life was just much better without it.. mike golic is starting to rub me the wrong way. seriously this show and channel is full of shite.
i for one don't care either way if the players want to unite.. even over money. does not bother me in the slightest.
Can you boycott ever posting on here again too?
Like anyone gives a shite if you watch espn or not. Especially ESPN. I'm so sick of people on here bitching about ESPN on here. They are pretty much the best thing on TV. If you don't like it fine don't watch. I don't care for the Home Shopping Channel, but I don't feel the need to bitch about it all the time. I just don't watch it. I am willing to bet that every personality on ESPN has forgotten more sports knowledge than you ever had.

I liked it. I think the players really need to get their shite together and prepare for the owners locking them out.
The players get 18% of the revenue and the owners want to cut that back. For an industry where the workers themselves are the product that number seems more than fair. Many owners are just greedy bastards. Most either got wealth that way or through inheritance. Being a sports franchise owner as a money making proposition ended a long time ago. It's not that different than your fantasy league except you have to have a billion dollars to cover the fees. And there is a line waiting for franchise opportunities too. I can understand it being tough for successful businessmen to operate in an environment that is marginally profitable compared to what they are used to. The NFL has done it right for a long time. That is keeping owners, players, and fans happy. They need to take care of their goose and not let the golden egg laying be interrupted.
Greed is a powerful force. Beisbol was once the national pastime. Those owners greed and inability to reach joint revenue sharing (like the NFL) has created a non-competitive chasm. Players on some teams have higher salaries than the entire payroll of others. Don't doubt that Jerry Jones or Daniel Snyder would prefer to be a NFL Steinbrenner and buy their way to perpetual contention if they could.

I believe they get 60% of the revenue and the owners want to cut back to 50%.
But 100% agree with your post.
What really makes me angry is that some people are taking the angle "well the players make this many millions so what do we care about them"... get a frickn clue, the owners make way more than any individual player can dream of! On top of that, they are going to get paid whether there is a lock out or not, the players aren't. How's that for fair?
ETA: Much of the players in the league do not make millions a year.

can i get a link or anything that shows the players want more money? last I had been reading, they were happy with extending the current CBA?

The owners have done an excellent job of misinforming people and getting the blame assigned to the players instead of where it belongs: the owners. The lockout (it won't be a strike as the players already signed an agreement) will occur because of the greed of a certain group of owners. The issue is big market owners vs small market owners, both of whom are using the players as a pawn. And most of you are allowing yourselves to be blinded by the billionaires and the manipulation of the media.
I agree with this.

I don't have a link, but you are right.
As it stands now the league brings in around $9 billion a year, the owners get the first $1 billion exempt and then split the rest with the players 40/60. The biggest issue now is that the players are happy with this but the owners want to exempt about $2.4 billion before splitting it with the players, which would leave the 40/60 split but effectively reduce the players cut of the total.

It's the only way Jerry Jones is going to survive financially.

It is the entire system of professional sports. The owners, the players, etc are all Greed.
Ticket prices up 100% over 4 years, $8 cups of beer and 95% of America is hurting financially.
Enough is enough.

Boycott all the companies that advertise and see what happens.
Sick of the Too Big Too Fail BS. We pay for it either in ticket prices or increased costs of products.

100% correct soph
The owners are completely at fault here, not the players...and if the players want to show a sign of unity against the owners, I have no issues

And attendance and ratings have never been higher. It's economics. They can charge those prices because people will pay them. Although, you may see ticket and concession prices drop soon with the way TV has evolved. People are getting better experiences at home and don't see a reason to go to the stadium.

Boycotting Pepsi won't change shite.

Your opinion is your opinion.
I think it is the system which the consumer supports.
No different than Americans being ripped off the Too Big Too Fail Companies and our politicians.

I dropped my jaw when I saw it on TV. I gave both teams the double bird. frick all these millionaires and their owners and their advertisers.
Just play damnit. I already support the Dome through taxes. No other industry gets so much government support to millionaires.
