Patrick Peterson is #6 on the ESPN Heisman Watch List

LINK

quote:

The first defensive player to toss his name into contention is Peterson, who almost single-handedly saved LSU from defeat against a severely depleted North Carolina team on Saturday night.

quote:

If the award is for the most outstanding player in college football, Peterson deserves to be in the mix. The 6-1, 222-pound corner is a spectacular talent who is physical, shifty and explosive. And, as he proved to UNC and everyone else in the Georgia Dome on Saturday night, he's also a devastating return man. Peterson set an LSU record with a combined 257 combined yards on kickoff- and punt-return yards in his first action as the Tigers' main return guy. Those 257 yards are the second-highest total in SEC history.

(If Germans, I searched and didn't find it. This isn't the same list as Chris Low's SEC Heisman Trophy List, on which PP7 is #1 LINK)

he'll need lots of INTs, tackles and kick return TDs and yards.. would love to see him win it. don't think they'll kick to him enough or throw at him enough

I agree, it's sort of a long shot. But the fact that he's getting all this media attention after one game is still pretty cool to see!

Man I hope Russell Shepard gets enough touches this year to get him onto this list.

It'll also mean we will have won more games as well.

not necessarily. Charles woodson only had one special teams TD in '97 when he won it (PP already has that). Woodson did have eight picks which most likely will not happen with PP, but if you give a little with the D, you can take some with the SpT etc..

Yeah he probably won't win it, but he may be the best player in college football. He just probably won't get the stats needed.

ESPN went out of their way to point out that the NC special teams were short handed. They didn't highlight his accomplishments. He will need to show more against better competition to get recognized.

Nor does he need to be doing that. Those genetic cramps are going to be hard enough to manage with his current role. We should hire trindon to run along with PP, holding his IV bag all game long.

Woodson also only had 283 return yards that year! PP7 only needs 26 yards returning to match that!!

Woodson also had:

-231 yards receiving on 11 catches, with 2 TDs.
-15 yards rushing on 3 attempts, with 1 TD.
-8 INTs.

And I can't find the numbers for his tackles and sacks, but I'm sure he had a few

he needs to have some big numbers they next few weeks and get the media to recpgnize a non offensive player. unlikely he will win unless every offensive contender has a subpar year and lsu gets more national attention

Didn't he get pulled after his touchdown Saturday? Was he cramping when Randle got a few returns?

Jesus, looking at those numbers why the frick did he win it. I know 8 picks but shite... if we would have let zenon return it a few times he could have reached 250. And he wouldn't have deserved it either.

Is that why he was going to the locker room? IV?

I think he ran into the locker room for an IV after his TD, not sure though. I was at the game.

Dude the media already IS recognizing him... that's why he's so high on the ESPN Heisman Watch List

And it's not just ESPN, but I saw a couple articles on Yahoo and CBSSports I believe that show a lot of people are taking notice.

Me too. I didn't notice him running into the locker room but I do remember him cramping up. Can't remember when though.

I was at the game as well. When RR was back to return that kick, I checked LSU's facebook site, and they said that PP was in the locker room getting an IV.
-
PP was on the field during warm ups with the receivers, after the kickers/returners warmed up. Miles stated post game that they have plans to use him on offense. (Take that for what it's worth)
-
Woodson didn't score much, and didn't do too much in the return department. A lot of his hype was from the year before. But he was an outstanding cornerback. Whoever threw at him was stupid.
