That's not true at all. Some schools actually develop their talent or give them a chance to develop rather than cutting them after 1 or 2 years.

No, I called out Les on this situation, but as a whole his recruiting has been fine as players seemed to be well aware that they were greyshirt options. That does not seem to be the case with Porter. The coaches weren't explicit with him on it.

And XBengal, you think after these teams moved on and found other players they are going to just be like "Okay, sure, come to us now."

Tennessee is most definitely had issues getting their numbers to work. Nebraska does too from what I've read. Outside of FSU, which I didn't find, you might have one right.

Fact is the kid had to sit out a semester or find a school within 3 weeks. If he did (which he did), he's now behind the curve with his teammates.

I don't think this makes Les some horrible dude, but acting like the dude wasn't even somewhat screwed shows that you guys really could care les about these athletes.

Methinks that they wouod if they could.

Some conferences don't allow it. That might add to the sanctity of a few coaches.

Tennessee will be lucky to have enough players to field a team. Since Dooley was hired they have lost a ton of players to attrition for various reasons. They may be the BCS team with the most roster space under the 85 man limit.

I just finished Drew Brees' book. There was not a team in his home state of Texas that offered him a scholarship. Porter is still in the SEC and has a scholarship. There are worse positions to be in. He can still achieve his goals. Good luck to him.

They had it on their mind he would be a grayshirt candidate, he refused, they said ok. They lied to him. Plain and simple.

Or maybe he was one of the couple of players that didn't pass the fitness. Miles did mention a couple of players didn't and he also stated it would be an opportunity for him to get stronger and prepare himself to play. He had the opportunity to observe the player since his signing, as well as get reports from Moffitt and his position coach. He had a chance to validate their decision, but he was up against a very strong punter (46.8 yard avg) versus Helton at 40 yards per punt, a highly sought-after defensive lineman and Jakhari Gore who will likely see action in the kick return game. It's unfortunate but Evan Porter had the opportunity to prove why he should keep the scholarship and one of the others should gray-shirt.

Major college football is a survival of the fittest situation. If he was evaluated at #26 or whatever after everything was taken into consideration that it was proper that he was offered the greyshirt. This is not some socialist or communist regime where you keep him over someone that you think is a better ballplayer for some misguided notion of "fairness".

And that is the first accurate account that I have read. He had the summer to impress the coaches. If it is true and they hadn't discussed grey shirting him then they certainly might have discussed with a few other players. But the fact that he was chosen could have been what they saw of him up close. The super class that has verbally committed will probably have a couple of players who just can't cut it at the SEC level. Should they sit on the bench at LSU and eat up a scholarship or go somewhere that they can contribute?

So LSU judges players based on what they look like physically now before they even step on the practice field? Awesome. No wonder LSU didn't end up with a sloth like Terrance Cody...

porter got a raw deal and its not good enough to say well other people do it also. lots of people have bad habits that you would not want your kids to copy. looks like lsu can be just another a-hole like everyone else.

not based on body appearance but conditioning. he was working out at LSU with the strength coaches and other off season team activities so they got a chance to see his work ethic and also conditioning and strengthening so he may not have been progressing fast enough and may have benifited from the greyshirt but that apparently isnt what he wants so chose to go elsewhere... it is sounding more and more to me like people what this solved like alot of little leagues are done with everyone should get to stay whethere they can contribute or not because it may hurt someones feelings sorry but welcome to the real world is what i have to say about it. life aint always fair but you have to get back up and try again

This is part of the reality of college football-- Porter did not want to greyshirt--yes, Miles & staff did not handle this as well as they could have. They could have informed him earlier of the possibility of greyshirting. It also sounds like Porter could have gotten himself into better playing shape and prepared better. I still think there are other OL true frosh & verbal commits who will prove to be better. Let Porter go where he can still play SEC football and not sit on the bench like he probably would have had he remained at LSU. Can we now move on past this?

That is a pretty shitty way on judging someone before giving them a chance to even step on the practice field as a Freshman, just saying.

Do you how many great Freshman have come in unconditioned? Cody was a Juco and that fat arse could barely stay conditioned long enough to stay on the field a entire series.

This Porter kid endured the worst thing I can imagine, being asked to sit out SIX WHOLE MONTHS.
The absolute horror !
From 18 to 18 1/2 he would have to defer his gratification !
From this day forward, LSU should always offer the exact amount of scholarships available.
Only 2 or three usually fail to qualify.
Actually they should save three for worthy walk-ons and academic superstars.
If we end up with say, 21 guys, who cares really.
On a roster that big what's 8 guys, right ?
I'm ashamed to be an LSU fan.
I hope Porter forgives us.
And I hope Kentucky beats us as long as he is at Kentucky.
And as for this Cameron Fordham sucker, that accepted Mile's greyshirt offer just like Coleman & Trindon, I pity him for not going to like SMU or Valdosta State where he could play this year.
He must have really low standards, imagine the bumpkin that would take one for the team like that....
Lastly, Les need to be fired.
All is lost.
