Its only going to get better. You will enjoy paying everyone's free lunch, more and more, as time goes on.

This is why many youth are democrats. Their lack of income enables them to be idealistic. When they work their arse off and are fortunate enough to increase their income they often change their tune.

Yeah, but more than likely they are Democrats because they are still, or recently removed, off their parents tit. That or the Gov't tit!

Welcome to the real world and the war. Those that work and provide know what is going on. Those that love to suck on the gov. tit will vote Dem.

My grandfather used to have 60 or 70% of his wages taken for federal taxes for most of his working life. He would have considered 35% to be insanely low. It is all relative.

Keep in mind that your HR dept probably withheld too much money by calculating your bonus earnings as if you would have made that every pay period for an entire year. Expect a refund.

When you get your check and you see all that taken out just think of that lucky person you've subsidized so he can sit around all week and do nothing productive, and if your guy is frugal and has any left over he will be able to squeeze in a casino trip with the remainder.

This.

I've always noticed the HR department at my job takes out way more than they need to on my Christmas bonuses.

It's when they finally find out that SOMEONE actually has to pay for all of this shite they always thought was "free".

And, that SOMEONE is them!

That's way too much unless you are making a shite load of money. May want to recheck your withholdings on your W-4. You can adjust withholdings anyway you want to. I am divorced but still claim married +6 because of deductions each year. Go to one of the online tax sites and open bogus account to estimate what your tax liability will be next year. They don't charge you anything until you actually file.

I got a "10,000" bonus from the military. Got 6800 instead after taxes.

I'm afraid I don't have much pity for you. Your first full time job nets you a signing bonus? I agree that the gov't shouldn't take that large of a chunk which of course is your point, but I can't help but notice the details behind it. What line of work are you in? You must be doing pretty well.

Bonuses are highly taxed.

Sucks, but I wouldn't become one of those people who make a habit of complaining about taxes all the time. It is funny every now and again, but there are those people that want to become martyrs.
