The reason is because Yates is waiting to pop the cork during the grand finale Battle of Hogwarts. He doesn't want to lessen the impact of that scene or make it feel redundant. He has said this in interviews.
I actually give him credit for that, but it just pisses me off more that the Snape/Harry confrontation was so rushed over. And from a cinematic perspective, who the hell wasn't looking forward to Alan Rickman just taking over a scene? Instead they share like 4 staged-ish lines and it's over? In the books that was one of the emotional highpoints of the entire series.

That's a lame excuse. The fights were completely different, and it's happening in the same movie. The final fight won't take place until the 2nd part of DH.
I'm not saying this was not his reason, but someone should have slapped him and told him to get a clue.

my problem with HBP besides the ending was that nothing was made of the HBP character. One of the overall themes of the book was the question of who the HBP was and why were they important. The build up to the moment when Snape tells Harry that he is the HBP was horrible and had no impact.
How did Rowling allow this horrible movie to be made? You would think she would have stepped in and said hell no.

I disagree, while I thought they did leave a few important parts out, to ME the lamest movie yet had to be Chamber of Secrets, followed closely in second place by Goblet of Fire....I liked how HBP started getting so much darker, thought I wished they would've included more key elements from the book. HBP the BOOK however, was one of my least favorite books to read.

1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
By far my favorite books because of the great expansion of the wizarding world and greater adventure.
2. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
An absolutely solid novel with great twists and turns.
3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Lupus alone makes this book one of the best of the series. The time traveling last few chapters was extraordinary
4. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I really did love this HP book. Probably one of the most underrated of the series. It must have been tough to write this one, but it does a great job of transitioning between the DEATH and the final book.
5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
A great transition book with Harry truly learning a lot about himself and his past.
6. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I probably loved the final book a lot more than other people, and it totally satisfied every question I wanted to know about.
7. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
The least satisfying book of the series for me. I hated Lockhart and almost made me stop reading the series.

HBP is by far the best book in the series.

5) The Sorcerer's Stone
6) The Order of the Phoenix- Rowling made this book far too long. It could have easily been 300 pages shorter. If she watered DH down as much, that novel would be 1200 pages. JKR herself thinks she did bad writing on this book since she made it as long as possible to appease the fans.
7) Chamber of Secrets- the only novel in the series which feels like a sequel more than the next step in a series. HBP redeemed this book slightly though.

This is mostly my order, but I'd put Goblet of Fire at 1 and move the top 2 down. I'm noticing that I'm not alone in putting Chamber of Secrets as my absolute least favorite.

I don't know why I don't like that one as much as other people do. I know its a very popular book and movie in the series and I am in the minority but I just can't put it near the top.
I think my dislike (if that's what you would call it) comes from the fact that its the first movie that really removed the series from the the things I enjoyed about it. The setting of Hogwarts changed, the robes were taken out of the movies, just little things like that.

if im not mistaken, they still wear robes when they are in a classroom setting, they just dont have them on ALL the time like they did in the first 2 books. As the series has moved further along, more and more things are taking place outside of that classroom setting so it may seem that way.

That is what ruined it for me as well. For two movies the setting was the same and the student wardrobe changes gave it a more public school feel.
