Its 2 parts.

Slight spoiler:

Part 2 will be almost entirely the Battle of Hogwarts.

They have to have two movies are the running time equivalent to due any justice at all to the series. If not the ending won't much sense to people who didnt read the books.

No shite.

But DH as 2 movies is definitely necessary.

Very little can be cut from the final novel (hell very little could be cut from Half Blood Prince, but Yates cut them anyway at the expense of the film), to where it really does need to be split into two films. Its just too long and would need to be four and a half hours long to put it into a single film.

There's not really a moment in that book that would be a good note to end on. Deathly Hallows Part 1 could easily end at Malfoy Manor. Yates just took his sweet time though and should have omitted the attack on the Burrow (which was entirely pointless) and Ron and Hermione's subplot in the film which really adds nothing to the overall series. Yates cut moments in that book highly essential to the overall plot. Like how the hell is he supposed to figure out the Horcruxes with the information he has?

Im a huge LOTR fan as well. If you have never read the HP books, you will really like the movies. To those who have read them, the movies are still good but not as good as they could have been
