Are they part of the Big whatever or is Mizzou leaving or staying what the deal?

staying
it's not clear to me how many poison pills the Big 12 is putting into their new agreement - and therefore how vulnerable to poaching they will be over the next few years

Talk about overplaying a hand. First, they claimed to be "considering" the B10, when in reality I don't think that conference really wanted them.
Then, after CU & NU jumped ship, & MU realized they were not going to get an invite to the P10 or SEC, but may wind up in the MTN, they crawled home to the B12, pledging allegiance the whole trip.

Mizzou should join the Big East they would be a good fit with WV Pitt Rut and others Kansas too for that fact.
Iowa St should go to the Mountian West they suck anyway
Then leave A&M UT OU Okie St Baylor TT I cant remember the other to play eachother.

I'm quoting this from Bernie at the STL PostDispatch, I couldn't have said it better so here you go:
"if Missouri was to blame for causing all of this turmoil simply by trying to canoodle with the Big Ten, then shouldn’t the Tigers receive some credit for the end result — a huge increase in TV dollars for everyone in the conference? Nebraska, trying to justify its leap to the Big Ten, used a preposterous and transparent “Missouri Made Us Do It” defense. The NU logic: because Mizzou made eyes at another woman, Nebraska was somehow forced to end its own marriage. Right. And the Nebraska defection played into the Texas plan for a complete Big 12 takeover. And by finalizing its takeover of the Big 12, Texas got a lot more money for itself, and a lot more money for everyone else, too. So if we are supposed to believe that Missouri’s restlessness set off a panic, then we also have to say that Missouri set off a sequence of events that led to a nice, fat payday for all of the boys in the Big 12. Sorry, but the B12 haters who are dumping on Mizzou can’t have it both ways."

not dumping on Mizzou but they fit better in the Big East

Here is how it will work. Texas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M will have equal shares from anything network related. Mizzo and the rest will get crumbs.

THAT'S IT! You have the new name for the Big-12...

I still think it is a matter of time before Missouri will be in the Big Ten down the road. This would only be the case if the Big Ten does decide to expand to 16 teams.

Mizzou tried to bolt but her pimp caught her.

I dunno where they end up but no question in my mind they fit better in the Big 10 than anywhere else they could be
games against nebraska, illinois, and iowa - with ooc game against kansas is the best possible situation for that program. And they probably offer enough in return (geography, population and resulting big 10 network bottom line) to be a good addition to the Big 10
as for the idea that they make sense in teh SEC? I really don't think so - they'd have little in teh way of regional rivals (no IL and Neb esp) and they wouldn't have built in interest from the STL and KC markets in teh SEC like they would playing the more regional Big 10 schools

The Mizzou / Illinois football rivalry is media contrived and has never meant much to either school. Mizzou hates Nebraska, but the Cornhuskers' won-lost record in that series doesn't indicate much of a rivalry. Missouri's ONLY true rivalry is Kansas and it is intense.

I'm in Missouri and I never understood the hatred those two schools (Nebraska and Mizzou) have for each other. I'm on the Kansas border, use to live in Kansas. The Mizzou vs KU rivalry is good in both football and basketball. They both suck in football but the rivalry between the states dating back to the Civil War makes it a great rivalry.

the mizzou/illinois games are teh only thing that motivates strong interest about missouri in saint lousi unless they are undefeated midway through the season
(I base my opinion on having a good portion of my childhood in saint louis)

it's mostly one way - because nebraska owned missouri for so long... but it picked up a little steam in the last decade when missouri started to beat nebraska a few times (even badly)

Mizzou's record against Nebraska is 33-59-3. The games used to go back and forth, but from 1979 until 2002 Nebraska spanked that arse 24 years in a row. One of those games was when the Nebraska receiver dropped a pass in the end zone, intentionally kicked it into the air and another Cornhusker caught it to win the game. There is just a lot of history between the two teams and like Kansas, Nebraska is a yankee state.
