wow is all i can say
at the top, this won't matter, and in the end their talent base will always hurt them, but this could be big for their mediocre programs

nobody has given them the money yet

it is weird - SEC deal of 3 billion over 15 years between CBS and ESPN works out to 150 million a year
if A&M, OU, and Texas are getting 20, and the other 7 are getting 15 - they are getting 165 million a year (at least - office might take a cut)

I will believe that shite when I see it. I think they have been sold a bill of goods, but who knows.

This is the thing I do not understand at all. I do not get how losing one of the best programs in the conference doubles the contract. There are TWO good games now, UT-OU and UT-TAMU. I really have no idea why or how all this money appeared for such a shitty conference.

Obviously, B-12 Commish Beebe has borrowed the BP leak estimators, and their faulty solar-powered calculators.
I'll believe this new math, when I see it via the TV contracts.

the new rumor is that some major players (outside college AD departments) stepped in to stop this. They are throwing a shite load of money at the big 12 to keep it as is.
Reason why vary from trying to stop the Pac10 from controlling 1/3 of the tvs to the colleges freaking out that the schools left out might force congress to look at the entire tax free situation.

Even the fans on the A&M board know that money isn't there

If someone offered me a guaranteed $17 mil for 15 years, or in the other hand guaranteed me $20 mil for 4 years, I'm going with the $17 mil.
Big12 got a temporary bandaid, but it won't stay on forever.

you dont think prices will go up higher over time?
heck 17 years ago 5 mil a year would of been HUGE

Texas Ten Conf is going to be putting a bad product on the field overall. They'll lose value over time. As the conference now will be, yall only would have had one ranked team last year. Nebraska leaving takes away your only other ranked team at the end of the season. MWC is going to have better teams now.

Sure, that's built in to these television contracts, so that's a wash anyway.
The point is, at some point in the future, you guys will be having to go through this Circus Act again.
And regardless of how you feel Texas or Texas A&M or anyone for that matter made out, what just went down for the Big12 is not good for the brand name of the conference or the schools involved.

It's going to be all OU and Texas for sure and every now and then aTm or Mizzou.

very simple, once the ratings show no one cares outside of texas and oklahoma. contract is over, money is limited. the conference will fold. it's practically folded twice in the last 15 years.
regardless, the conference has no credibility nationally, now.

I'd go opposite. If I have a strong product, I want to negotiate the market value for a short time frame because I'm always getting maximum return.
The $17m, after 10 years, could be much more. The downside is the product value could go down. It's all about how strong you are and long you can maintain that strength.

gonna be hard to sell ad space for ksu vs. iowa state and baylor vs. kansas type games every week.

i am still insulted as a die-hard SEC fan that our out of this world, unbelievable, record setting contract signed a year ago has now been trumped by a far shittier conference and product

Negative. With the unique ability for schools in the SEC to have their own local networks and handle many of their marketing and media rights in-house, they either receive or have the potential to receive a chunk of TV revenue that is largely unaccounted for when talks of these sorts are brought up. Florida, for example, makes 10 mil a year on top of the ESPN/CBS contracts putting their sum at around $27 million - well above estimates for contracts expected to go into effect in any of these new conferences.
