What to expect for Destin over the next few weeks?

I have heard both ends of the spectrum and everything in between. From "no problem" to "disaster." What can we really expect for Florida beaches over the next month and longer? A few tarballs? Stench that makes enjoying the hotel pool difficult? Oil slick in the Gulf?

I'm here in Destin now and I can tell you they are crapping in their pants. They have 3 different sets off boom at destin harbor. Spoke with some of the deckhands at the Destin Harbor and they are not happy at all.

I really can't see that it will be disaster. Probably just a lite sheen or some tarballs.

I'm in Destin now and the oil is the talk of the town. I've been told that boom is already here and ready to go. Have talked to a couple locals who say that lots of tourists have been cancelling in the last few days b/c of fear of oil on the beaches. I believe the next week or two should be fine. Noway would I be coming here in a month or so.

I live in Pensacola and local news says oil patches (not sheen) are 6 miles from bay entrance. Everyone here is freaking out also. This will not be good, we have already lost tons or revenue from cancelled hotel reservations and charter fishing. 2 LARGE tournaments have been cancelled already. The seafood outlets are feeling it. The bars and restaurants are feeling it. Nobody is hiring anymore in the hospitality industries. Destin is a few short clicks down the beach. All areas of the panhandle are freaking out right now and it won't be long before the west side of the peninsula will do the same. Even if the leak is stopped today the entire Gulf of Mexico either is or will be up shite creek!

We are suppose to go to Destin for the 4th of July, I talked to my uncle an father they want to take a wait a see. I really hope that it will be fine(but that is fools hope). We talked to the lady that owns the condo we are renting for the week we have until the 3rd to scrub the trip. If so we are going to Hot Springs. I feel sorry for the residents of Destin it is so beautiful there I hate to see the beaches with oil on them.

Well, if it turns out you have to come to Hot Springs, I hope you enjoy it.
We have plans to be in Gulf shores mid-July. Not looking great for G.S. I have until next week to cancel. We might look at Panama City Beach since it's 100 or so miles down the coast, but the Destin stuff doesn't sound good for that for us. Of course, if PCB is FUBAR, we are considering Myrtle Beach (if the loop current hasn't brought the sheen to the Atlantic by that point.)

I believe this first round will be relatively light with a few tar balls and a light sheen on the water. Subsequent rounds will be harsher.

Headed to Destin tomorrow for a week. Hope we beat the oil. We go every summer and I am sick about this. It is so beautiful there. This is truly unbelievable.

Yea, planning on going to Perdido Key in late July. I cannot imagine that we are going to escape negative impact.
I'm thinking we should reschedule to a beach on East coast. Any suggestions?

News this morning said they have found tar balls on Pensacola beach...

I was on the beach in Destin late yesterday and I didn't see any boom, nor oil. Also, there was absolutely no unusual smell. The water looked fine except for what appeared to be a large algae bloom in the water.
