What happened to all the inside information?

When this well blew it seemed like several posters had some pretty decent inside info. Over the last week it all seems to have stopped.

A lot of the info that was being discussed came out and was made public with the investigation.
BOP test charts, morning reports, etc.

I like my conspiracy theory better

So do I. Hope I didn't draw too much attention from your theory.

Not so much asking about this aspect. I am asking about the day to day operations trying to stop the leak. It seems to me that when the senate investigation started every thing we were hearing from insiders just stopped. I go with the memo to STFU went out.

I still have my in with the Coast Guard but outside of saying that BP is really stepping up and that the Federal Government is once again bogging things down, there has been little new info the last week or so.

LSUDad, Another nobody,
This was posted a while back at me. With over half my life in this stuff (Some say I'm in my 90's, so with over 45 years....lol), I do have some knowledge in whats going on. I do know some friends inside of this. But its not worth the time and effort to argue with some on this board. But I do enjoy reading whats going on from this side of the table. Glad Chicken got this board together....

Not saying this is the case with everyone, but I know for me personally, I've stopped posting as much on this board because I'm tired of standing up for my profession. If it was healthy debate, and more ideas, I'd be more inclined to post. But it's all the "it's the end of the world as we know it" advocates that are posting and spewing their illogical and uneducated bullshite that makes this board less fun.
There's always that, too.

I think most people with industry knowledge on here are tired of arguing with people who know almost nothing about the industry spouting off sensationalistic BS over and over. It's almost as if they refuse to attempt to learn basic concepts because it puts their conspiracy theories and agendas in jeopardy. See some of the other threads for examples of this.

Yeah, but those of us who are on your side who would really like to read the common sense and factual stuff that you guys post are missing it. I honestly have learned a bunch from you "insider" folks and have used alot of this information in posting on other boards and talking to very ignorant friends/co-workders.
Don't give up the battle of keeping the good information out there. If not, we end up some of the bigger idiots just spreading one lie after another.

It's people like you that make me want to shed a tear of joy.
And you're right. Even as someone who has been in the field for 10 years, I've learned a lot of technical aspects that I didn't know before. There's been a few threads on the board about the wealth of information that the people on the board contain, and I couldn't agree more.
Someone else summed it up best yesterday when they posted something along the lines of having been all over the world on drilling facilities, and everyone that he went to, always had at least one person from Louisiana on it.
When it comes to O&G industry, not many people can do it like we can.

couple of things I know:
NALCO has run out of the oil soulble spill dispersant (Corexit) they were using. On top of that word has come around to Congress that the dispersant is potentially damaging to the environment as well and some inquiries have been made into the EPA's decision to allow the stuff to be used
Some planes were spraying generic caustic/butyl cellusolve based degreasers on the spill and they have been ordered to stop because the caustic/butyl degreasers could have a severe effect on the shrimping industry.
There is a push to start spraying water based non-toxic dispersants (typically used in the soil remediation/pit cleanup side of the business) on the spill but they are MUCH more expensive.
H2S (sour) gas readings around Venice and offshore are reportedly coming up very slowly and this could push the class action lawsuit to a whole new unprecendented level if the workers and people onshore start to get sick or have to be evacuated.

Thanks for that supa. I hadn't heard about the H2S issues yet. That certainly isn't good. Especially if they have to start doing mass evacs because of H2S readings.
Posted on 5/14/10 at 8:55 am to supatigah
supa, any news on how your/our solution to the icy build up is going? Where do I send my direct deposit info?
Posted on 5/14/10 at 8:56 am to BROffshoreTigerFan
it isnt an issue yet, but it could be
we all know from our H2S schools how low the thresholds are for H2S.

Even been on a rig when some has escaped the formation?
I've only worked in H2S fields 4 times, and on two of the locations, we had to put on repirators for a real event. Scary shite.

I wouldn't stop posting because people disagree with you or because they are ignorant regarding the subject.
However it is pretty obvious in many posts who works in the industry and who doesn't. Not because of the quality of information but because the people in the industry are much quicker to defend the industry and appear to downplay the significance of the spill more than those outside of the industry. It is completely understandable that people in the oil industry want to keep their jobs but when you have some saying that there is no problems and everything is fine and the spill will cause no harm it paints a bad picture for those on the outside and I think that is where your problem arises.

You will not find many who are actually posting this kind of stuff. EVERYONE agrees there is a huge problem.
