I'm not too happy about this. I think they may be able to fall under fair use. But whatever.

90% of the people who've ever heard of the movie "Downfall" only know of it because of the internet meme. How stupid do you have to be to actively attempt to eradicate free advertising?

Apparently it's more than just copyright infringement to these guys. There are a bunch of groups out there who are actually offended by those videos. They think it wrong to turn Hitler into a clown. I guess they think by laughing at these videos we might forget all of the bad things he did.

Downfall isn't exactly "The Room", where Generation X'ers are going to go out and buy a copy of the DVD just because of that scene. The film had gotten almost all "A" reviews, so it's not as though it wasn't selling copies like the incredibly obscure Tommy Wiseau film.

In any case, I thought all of the parody videos save for two were painfully unfunny. I can't say that I'll miss any of them, save for the Dallas Cowboys and X-Box ones.

This is what I don't get. Cue the no sense of humor comments. I was never able to finish one of the videos. Just plain not funny to me. And no, I'm not a Jew.

Some were bad some were great. No different than all comedy.

Archie, I liked the Stargate Universe one.

Was it one of the most overused memes in existence? Probably, but some were funny.

I might have to give it a try then. I saw the thread, but as previously mentioned, I have just never been able to sit through one of them before. I guess I just didn't find the first one I saw funny (don't even remember the subject), and since then, I have just been like, "oh look, it's that video again."

All humor is subjective. I do find it funny seeing Hitler pissed at inane things.

I do agree it is overplayed about as far as something like that can be played out.

Seriously, how is this remotely offensive to the Jews? It takes their tormenter and makes him look like a complete assclown, which he really is. Its not as if we are poking fun at the holocaust, just making fun of the most evil man to ever gain that much power.

That's your opinion, though.

If you don't see how an Auschwitz survivor could see the parodies as trivializing a horrific period in time, I don't know what to tell you. I'm sure some Jews will say levity is a good thing, but it wouldn't surprise me if others disagree.

The studio made an historical film that wasn't intended to be comical. Whether I find the parodies funny or not, I can appreciate that the studio might not want their copyright infringed upon in such a manner. Just like Johnny Cash's family wouldn't license "Ring of Fire" to be used in a hemorrhoid commercial, or certain artists don't allow others to sample their work.

I made one and posted on YouTube - it's still there, I can view it, but there's a notation under it:

"Video blocked in some countries".

I didn't use Hitler in the title, I guess they can hunt down the video itself and block it.

Didn't a Jewish man write and direct The Producers?

Marketing and having fun are two completely different things. No one was using the Hitler video to market anything.

And I agree, although funny at first, it is now one of the most overused memes in existence.

That scene from the movie wasn't even remotely related to the death camps. It was about the allied forces closing in on Berlin.

Are you saying that Jews should be offended by any portrayal of Hitler? Perhaps the Muslims are right to cry out about Muhammad on South Park?

If they had come out and said "We're taking it down because it's overplayed as frick" I would have

But violating the spirit of the fair use doctrine just because Constantine films said so?
