I would suppose that is why Miles indicated he would be running for his punishment.
See I would read it as this: You made a stupid mistake, but if you want your spot on this team you are going to participate in drills and be expected to perform...broken hand or not.
But I dont read into everything to pick Miles apart, so I can see where the confusion would be.

Miles never said it was punishment. That was the OP. I think Miles just said he is not going to get out of practicing or performing because he made a bone-head mistake. I'm sure his punishment will come elsewhere. But Miles, like most good coaches, will keep that in house and not let us be privy to it. But hate on, haters.
that is what I meant to say.

I find the following Miles-ism REMARKABLE:
he will SUSTAIN SOME RUNNING.
Parse that.
I swear unto all of you, friend and foe alike,
I really appreciate Miles as a coach.
I applaud and praise him.
Further, this whole tough love thing fits in perfectly
with Miles' previously communicated intention that the
team will be able to run, which as we know is a test of manhood as well as talent and training.
While a passing game is pretty, necessary and NFL preparation, I want to see smash mouth football on 3rd and short or 4th and short.
And, to address the question about whether this is approved by an MD, if it isnt "approved" or more importantly, "approvable", we have seen the last of Les Miles. It this is known to be a danger for Toliver the other question is, whether he made the choice himself, knowing he would be down the depth chart, when he was ready to practice. I hope not.
Finally, I believe that players in the NFL play with broken bones sometimes. Whether we approve, must depend on the prognosis, I suppose. Who takes chances on a practice scrimmage? I played with broken ribs sometimes. I had broken ribs from football in high school. I played anyway.
It wasnt dangerous, just painful to breath. I broke the same ribs a couple of years later, when a guy leaped up in a karate move and kicked me in the ribs, after I had made 8 or 10 jumpers in a row. That was how he defended me.
I considered it indecent. Cowardly.
Bolton. He played for Bolton. What an a-hole. Some people just cant stand losing.
HIS PERSONAL EMBARRASSMENT WILL BE ONGOING.

Is he playing a hurt player to punish him? Would he be doing the same thing had Toliver broke it during a drill? I think a better punishment would be to just run him all practice. Allowing him to play is no punishment.
You punish in an attempt to teach.
Toliver having to play through the pain, having to try and catch the ball with a cast, getting reminded every time he fails to perform as a result and having to run the extra spints will absolutely achieve this goal. The guy is going to come out of this Spring practice understanding that his "minor" action could have "major" consequences.
It seems you don't understand the purpose of punishment.

This. Jasper Howard didn't get a second chance.

Geez, you guys don't seem to understand that Miles is doing Toliver a favor by letting him practice. As the saying goes, you don't make the team rehabbing from an injury. Miles and Toliver understand this perfectly well, apparently, and Miles is willing to give him the reps.

I used to hate Miles for his harsh punishments, but i think he has a great hold on the team's discipline "off the field".
this is actually harsher than I thought he would do. A first time offender usually doesn't have to get called out this bad.
and I want to say i'm a JJ fan, i think he'll do great this year, but the first thing that came to my mind was.....
breaking his hand won't hurt him catching a JJ pass, now if he had broken his foot, he'd be in trouble.

great to see miles being a hard arse finally. maybe the team will play with a fire.
Yeah, but like the rest of us, he's only doing that 'cos he's afraid people on the Rant will give him more shite than they usually do. Give me a fricking break.

Toliver should be use to this. He dropped way too many passes last season for a seasoned and very highly touted WR. Let's hope he responds well and doesn't use it as an excuse. I agree with the idea that Miles needs the change of attitude also. I think he's doing a diservice to players by being too nice. Like with JL for example. I get tired of watching him pat the kid on the head after he throws an interception. He's not his mother, he's his coach.

"people play with casts on their hands all the time"
I wonder how the backup feels when the coach won't put him in even though the starter is crippled. Could wind up with two cripples. One physical and one emotional.

At lot of tards on here feel punishment should be some sort of sadistic vengeance for their own(the tards) peronal catharsis.
