Why wouldn't they? It isn't like the thing starts next week.

The WC would likely help the country deal with it.

Going to the World Cup this year is really great for the country. If they do well it will rally the country together in this time of disaster.

Chile has too much firepower for them. Suazo and Sanchez are going to abuse them.

many people forget the 02 world cup when the us had that miracle run to the quarters. that was the summer after 9/11. i think it helped boost people who were still down

some not all . soccer is huge on the east coast especially new york so i think it did boost some spirits.

Yeah, when is it due? I was planning on waiting a little bit longer until the roster was pretty much officially set. Biesla wanted to see as many players as he could for the final roster with the friendlies but that won't be an option now.

By the way, Chile had a larger earthquake in 60 and managed to host the World Cup in 62. They've been in this position before, and they are much better off than they were in the 60's.
