This image from the OT got me thinking:

You have two identical linemen. The same except the one looks like above, and the other has been following a strict diet and cardio/HIIT regimen and has cut his bodyfat down to that of a RB. How can the fatass compete against this guy? I understand the importance of leverage and momentum, but the leaner guy should be easily able to outmaneuver him.

Thoughts?

The latter.

There are very, very few NFL linemen that look like Cody. These guys are huge, but ripped everywhere but the belly.

Are you saying he will suck in the NFL?

If Cody looks like that now, his heart will explode by the the time he is 38 if not sooner.

ripped is a strong word....but virtually all are solid, not saggy and loose like Cody. He has a LOT of work to do.

he's got 50-60 extra lbs to push, while he's just as strong as the other guy pushing 290 or so

how many 285-290 lb DTs do you see in the NFL?

how many 330 lb DTs do you see in the NFL?

With DTs, it's a balance. IF he can still move and he carries 50-60 extra lbs, then he will be a so called space-eater. These guys do not last too long though because some of them do actually eat their way out of the league or become too slow as they age.

Cody does look to have a lot of work ahead of him because he already looks to be on the verge of being way too fat to move.

This. I work out @ Elmwood Fitness and a lot of saints were/are members. I have seen Grady Jackson and Norman Hand in person and though they did have big fat bellies their chests and arms were rock solid and NOT saggy like Cody. Even their big stomachs looked solid. I'm just saying bc Cody has been compared to Hand and Grady.

It seems like most NFL DT's have "hard guts" if that makes sense (maybe more fat under the abs as opposed to subcutaneous fat like Cody).

There isn't much maneuvering in plugging a hole like most DT's do.

You're talking about the interior line though. A DE can use a combo of speed and power to get by a blocker because he's on the edge and has room to maneuver. An interior Dlineman will likely run into another blocker, or worse, open up a big hole in the middle of the line, if he tries to outmaneuver the blocker. You want someone to clog up the middle, and ideally occupy two blockers. That means you need someone big enough to withstand the push of a 300 pound offensive lineman.

That fat arse is disgusting. He is one of the reasons health care costs keep going up in this country.
