Last year was worse. If ya'll have a problem with it, don't go to games. LSU doesn't use state money to pay for salaries. So if you have a problem, don't go to games, don't watch them, don't support them. If there was state money being used then you could complain

I know where money goes and and comes from. It may be looked at a little differently for a baseball player's parents looking at academics and the program. Some money comes from Tops, Mom and Dad, and some baseball money.

Where is $300,000 of Les' salary coming from.....tax money!

9-3, 3rd in the SEC, a New Year Day bowl, and a national ranking does not equate to "mediocrity" in the minds of most reasonable people.
The success of LSU football has allowed LSU to transfer millions from sports to academics. Some raises passed out to coaches will hopefully allow those types of transfers to continue.

tuition for one year times all of the students that attend lsu.....still does not match the amount of money that chavis and a staff per say will make a lsu in one season........
when teachers start bringing millions to lsu, then they gonna get more money....i wish teacher made more...but dont hate on coaches who "earned it"

Most people know the football program is self-sustaining but, it doesn't change the fact that politically it looks bad that you have employee's who preside over mediocrity getting raises and those possibly doing very well at their jobs potentially losing their income. I know you say free market here but, the truth is if miles and his gang were ceo's they wouldn't be getting these bonuses for sucking ball sack at their jobs. Oh wait....
tell those teachers they had a choice when they went to school...if they hatin over the lsu coaching staff tell them to go back to school and become a coach

Klaus,
Since you've made this bold statement of fact, please tell me, without looking on the internet for answers, in your opinion, what is a fair salary for the following:
-an assistant professor in the 6th year of teaching with a Doctorate degree
-international recognition in their field and continued international presence in the field
-multiple years of unpaid service to their university, deparment, college, and community through various committees, recruiting, community initiatives and outreach
-a track record of success in student job placement
Also, what do you think the current starting salary is for an assistant professor with a terminal degree?

This is the best point I've seen made on this board in a long time. And I agree with you.

And, in fact, USA Today did some research and included the following information> LSU is one of only two universities in the country that do not receive state subsidies or use student fees. LSU subsidizes academic and I do not believe the other university (Nebraska) does.
Why don't we try to be a classier type of fans and quite our moaning and crying! I am embarassed.

Yes, the instructors that went to school 10 years ago had the ability to exactly predict the economic climate. They knew that the exact university that they would now teach at 10 years later would be under heavy economic burdens and possibly be cutting their exact positions. And yet, knowing all those exact things 10-15 years ago, they stupidly CHOSE to accept jobs at LSU.

I don't understand the thinking of some of these politicians in Louisiana.
Where do you rank education?
Behind social services and welfare apparently. How bout more prisons, and money for DOWNTOWN development.
I would rank education right up there with police/fire fighters.
What about a tax increase? I would not paying a little extra to get the tenured professors a raise.
I don't understand politics in La that well. But i do know enough to know how important education is.
and it seems like it is taking a back seat to partisan politics.
what a shame.
lsu athletics is self sufficient. Seems like we should be blaming the lawmakers and not the coaches that don't owe a damn thing to Louisiana.
Oh, didn't obama cut education

Blaming the athletic department is not the solution. For LSU to go forward as an academic institution someone will have to pick up the tab. It is unlikely that the tax payers will want to do that especially since most kids in the state cant get into LSU. Why pay extra taxes for a school your kid wont get into? What will end up happening is tuition will go up by a large percentage. The problem with that though is LSUs financial aid programs don't give alot of money, they've been able to rely on TOPS paying a large chunk of the student's tuition.
I do not agree with this argument you will hear in the state legislature but they will say that will all that money sports earns from alumni donations, that people should be contributing it to the schools scholarship fund. I don't like the government telling people what to do with their money but that's what you may hear in the coming years.

i could totally see that happening. Lawmakers passing a law the tax's donations to the athletic department.
after all, without the university the football team does not exist.
the LSU brand does not solely belong to the football team, but more so to the state of louisiana.
