I agree, LSU has already said it'll be nearly impossible to graduate in 4 years. You have parents who want their child to get a college degree and play football. You will more than likely finish your football career before finishing your college degree.
LSU didnt have that great of an academic reputation to begin with now it wants to cut 1/3 of its faculty members ballooning class sizes and student to teacher ratios?

Coaching salaries are ridiculous, but as long as the athletic dept. is self-sufficient and gives $6 million back to academics, probably saving many academic jobs right there, they really have a argument based on nothing.

part of the budget cuts they are cutting a large amount of state funded assistantships too.
more than likely you'll have ga's teach 1 course for 3K a semester. Most are not qualified to teach nor have a great deal of teaching experience.

Screw you and the horse you came into town on. Most of us are not pushing agendas, and we put up with students who feel like they are entitled to nothing lower than an "A" despite being barely able to read or even write a coherent sentence. Without us, there is no "university".

The FANS pay for the football program. Add the TV advertising which CONSUMERS pay for via increased costs.
Empty out that stadium and LSU is at a big loss.
Let the academics become a POS and quality recruits (who actually stress education) go elsewhere.
Jindal was a lying POS. Louisiana does NOT have a flagship state college. Unlike TX, NC, FL, VA, Louisiana is too cheap and uneducated to stress the importance of education.

Totally seperate entities. The football program provides some funding back to the university. If it were the other way round, you'd have a point.......but, you don't.

This will have an impact on recruiting. Even those of you who don't care about the faculty cuts should realize that other coaches are going to tell recruits that LSU cut 1/3 of its faculty and that it's not possible to graduate in four years will hurt recruiting since athletes have only four years that they can play sports within a five year period and not everyone is redshirted. No one who is good gets redshirted in hoops and this will also hurt football recruiting.

I agree plus with having a large student to teacher ratio, less resources available to the students, and LSU tumbling in the rankings and national image. It lessens the degree if earned in 5 years mean a little less.

LSU is a non-profit government sponsored institution. Music has a long history at LSU and music appreciate can be considered a sign of a well-educated population.

Budget cuts force LSU to eliminate two programs
Both have very few students because they are so labor intensive. Astrid Merget, LSU vice chancellor, and Adelaide Russo, the director of comparative literature, are asking the Louisiana Board of Regents not to cut the programs. Board members voted Wednesday to eliminate both.
"It undermines the quality of the faculty who are committed to LSU," Russo said.
The programs were not eliminated because they are not important, but because board members say the legislature and governor forced them to make cuts.
"This is probably the tip of the iceberg and something had to happen somewhere," said Ronald Toups, board of regents chairman. "Something has to start somewhere."
Russo is asking the public to join the fight to protect the state's future through higher education. She says the fight for her comparative literature program is about more than the graduate students who are a part of the program. Russo says the impact could trickle down to the undergraduates.
"It's the first victim in what I think is going to be the death of humanities and this is not good," Russo added. "We could not teach the numbers of units in English, German, Russian if we didn't have teaching assistants."
Russo and Merget plan to appeal the decision by the board of regents. According to board members, if the pair can prove the cost effectiveness of the programs, then they may reconsider.
