Personally, we normally went to both albertsons and wal mart, but cut wal mart out ALL TOGETHER about 6 months ago for obvious reasons ... and now, I've pretty much stopped going to Albertsons too, mostly because their prices kind of suck ....
We now shop at Winn Dixie .... best prices if you buy their specials, and use their weekly coupons (10 off 50), and its usually a relaxing, pleasant experience with nice employees and small crowds

HiNabor: Meat, Crabmeat, beer and I like how they treat me like a neighbor.
Albertson’s: some of their weekly ads are hard to beat and they have decent wine selection.
Walmart Market: for many pantry staples, soap, laundry, and cosmetic ect.. and the kids like the pizza & pre-packaged apples for lunch, and I like the lines are not lone like at the Super Centers.
Winn-Dixi: very rarely. Every time I go into the one on Coursey the meat looks like cheap road kill.

Each has their attributes and downfalls.
At Albertson's, frozen crab legs and filets are a decent buy when on sale, and the produce is usually healthy. However, at some locations, you can smell the fish counter from 50 feet away...not good, and sometimes you can even see a browning tuna steak. Good beer and liquor selection.
Winn-Dixie: Sale items are the way to go. You can easily stock your freezer/pantry items with the weekly "buy one get one free" items, and the $10 off $50 coupon is an extra bonus. Sometimes the produce can look like something that should have already been thrown away.
Fresh Pickins: Awesome prices for decent produce. That's where I stock up on things like garlic, ginger and especially shallots, which for some reason can cost five times more at other places.
Neighborhood Walmart: Cheaper prices for things that they may or may not have in stock. There's nothing worse than not being able to complete a recipe because the store is simply out of the item. They are the best overall value for stocking random pantry items.
Whole Foods: When money is no object. They also carry specialized items that you might not find anywhere else in the city.
Calandro's: I've never been disappointed, and they actually have an approachable butcher that will help you with your needs, unlike other stores where your only option is what's already sitting in plastic out on the shelves. If you want a three inch thick porterhouse, they'll cut it for you. Great beer and wine selection. Bring a full wallet, but you get what you pay for here.
Vinh Phat: Imagine being at the mercy of the "Asian section" of the above mentioned stores and only having a handful of crappy la Choy products to choose from. I think if you remove this grocery from Baton Rouge, it would create the largest culinary void out of all of the grocers listed above.

Walmart Neighborhood - no meat or produce.
Fresh Pickins for produce.
Reeve's, Albertsons, Winn Dixie for meats, depending on weekly specials.

Quit shopping at Walmart after I saw a pack of ground meat stuffed on a random shelf on the non food side of the store. Also they have become filthy in general due to a certain segment of our growing society. I shop at Rouse's now and will still pick up a few things at Sam's Club. While although it is still a Walton family company there is something about having to pay to shop there that keeps it clean.

Central Market for produce, cheeses, bread, speciality items.
Phoenicia for imports.
HEB for everything else.
Rose's for seafood.

I generally go to a local owned place. I pay more but I like to support local owned business. Meat is always better and the butcher can cut anything I need.
