Perhaps the SEC can take a page from the WAC handbook and grow a set.

to the WAC officials for taking a stand.

No doubt that Toliver was lit up on the play, but I'm not sure it warranted the kid being suspended. I was at the game and you could hear the helmets impact, but I don't think he "speared" him

That hit is the definition of spearing.

Since he led with his arms, and the contact was made by his facemask, isn't it a legal hit? If so, on what grounds is Benson suspending him?

It is also a foul if a player targets a defenseless opponent and initiates contact above the shoulders. Each of these is a personal foul and thus carries a 15-yard penalty.

I just watched this for the first time just now, as I didn't see the game.

This is clearly a helmet to helmet hit. Not the worst one I've ever seen, by a long shot but a helmet to helmet nonetheless.

It should have been called a penalty. Beyond that, I don't know but this was YET ANOTHER DISGRACEFUL EFFORT BY OUR TERRIBLE SEC REFS.

You can bet that Slive sent a letter or made a phone call to the WAC commissioner for embarrassing him like this. It really was a gutsy move by that guy.
The lack of confidence in the integrity or competence or the SEC officiating is a very real issue. Slive will lose his job if he continues to refuse to treat it as such.

Actually, it looks like the SEC asked the WAC commissioner to review it and punish the player. And he did.

T-1,
What makes you think the SEC asked for that review?
And why wouldn't the SEC discipline it's own officials for not calling that foul and disqualifying the player?
The league has done that once this season...

I think it should have been a penalty because he did go high and lead with the head but I do not agree with a suspension.

Maybe LSU should drop out of the SEC and join the WAC.

The WAC commissioner responded to some of our inquiries. He told us that some guy named Dave Parry discussed the hit with Rogers Redding and they determined that it was a blatant, flagrant foul and that Boyd should have been ejected from the game and they asked the WAC commissioner to punish Boyd. And he did.

No, it wasn't. It was a damn fine hit on one of our players. This is bullshite, the kid shouldn't be suspended if he laid a hell of a lick on a guy. ESPECIALLY if the ref didn't throw a flag, he had a good look at the play.

Sorry fellow tiger fans, I do NOT agree with this crap.

Its called playing with heart!

And for the crap lsu fans bitching about the tech players celebrating after the hit, they were celebrating because of the hit, how the hell are they suppose to know he was injured 5 seconds after? beside, TT was back in the game anyway.

Oh, OK...
If you play with "heart" the rules do not apply...

You can lay a good lick without hitting the opposing player in the head with your helmet.

It's called personal foul. The WAC commish obviously reviewed the play carefully and came to the same obvious conclusion.
Maybe he didn't deserve to be suspended. I don't know. Did he intend to hit Toliver in the head with his helmet? Hard to know for sure. That's why I probably would've just thrown the flag and warned him. Perhaps the commissioner suspended him because this is a pattern for this player... Similar personal fouls in past games? I don't know. I don't follow Tech.

T1,
If what you believe is accurate, then it raises a lot of quesitons for both leagues and teams.
Seems to me that if Redding concluded it was flagrant, asking WAC to discipline the player, when his own crew failed to even penalize it, takes a lot of gall.
And for SEC fans of all stripes, what does that admission to the WAC, without acknowledging it to LSU, tell us about the officiating crisis and the league's candor about it.
I didn't like the hit.
I thought the no call was even worse,
But this after- the- fact- double- secret- probation by the SEC is worse still.
