No, it wasn't. It was a damn fine hit on one of our players. This is bullshite, the kid shouldn't be suspended if he laid a hell of a lick on a guy. ESPECIALLY if the ref didn't throw a flag, he had a good look at the play.
Sorry fellow tiger fans, I do NOT agree with this crap.

If you don't think it was a dirty hit, then you need to remove your head from where you sit. I won't argue intent (as I don't think he intended to cause harm) but it's clear he launched himself high and made helmet to helmet contact on a defenseless receiver (thanks Lee...I argue that TT doesn't try when you're on the field and you do this shite to give him a reason).
It's a half game. It's a message from the WAC official to try and stop these hits from happening. They put the rules in because of the viciousness of such a hit and what it can do to a player unable to protect against it. 15 yards will do very little in the scheme of things. Start suspending those hits, even half a game, and the message will start to get across.
I applaud the WAC commissioner for this.

It does not violate the letter of the Rule (9-1-3). We have asked the WAC for clarification, and will let you know what they say. Sounds like Les Miles whined to the SEC and the SEC manipulated our spineless commissioner.

Here's the bigger issue:
T1 provides a link above which quotes a NCAA official (Parry)who refers to his discusssions with the WAC and Rogers Redding (SEC supervisor of officials).
Based on this memo,it appears the NCAA intervened on the call, not the SEC.If that is true (and I am not sure it is, it just appears so from the memo), this is quite an indictment of the SEC. The memo also says the official should be disciplined. Was he?
Is the SEC saying ANYTHING about this?

No doubt that Toliver was lit up on the play, but I'm not sure it warranted the kid being suspended. I was at the game and you could hear the helmets impact, but I don't think he "speared" him. Toliver is probably 6'4"ish and Boyd is 5'10". Of course he has to leave the ground to deliver a big hit on a man that size. Chad Jones does it all the time and Laron Landry did as well. A penalty should have been called, but I dont see where the LA Tech kid used malice like the Auburn lineman on Dorsey or Spikes used when he was poking out eyeballs.
totally agree..

Miles turned him in? Ho move by Miles.
Posted on 11/19/09 at 10:35 am to NCLSUWSPFAN
it was clearly head to head, if not for that then i would call bullshite
Posted on 11/19/09 at 10:36 am to truthbetold
Certainly one hopes that Miles complained to the league about the no call. One of his players could have been serioulsy hurt.
Did he go over the head of the SEC, directly to the NCAA?
If so,THAT is real news (and doesn't violate the ban on coaches complaining publically about SEC offciating).
Moreover, the NCAA decided to get involved...

FWIW Clean called the hit a "legal" hit and an "attitude adjustment"

For defending his players? If your head coach wouldn't have done the same, then I really feel for your team. You Tech guys haven't been objective about any of this from the beginning. A ref blew a call. It was called to the attention of the proper officials. The play was reviewed. The obvious was noted. It was dealt with properly. Now you've broken down into middle school name-calling. Awesome.

It was an illegal hit IMO... left his feet and led with the head.... not the hands or any other stuff like some people are saying
When I watched the play first in real speed time I was just like "wow, good hit" but watching it on replay several times clearly he left his feet to launch at the head of the other player and the first contact initiated was with the helmet to the other player's helmet
This is clear when you watch the replay... observe the angle from around 31-34 seconds where the camera shows the side view and you can see what body part hits first... views from above and behind are way less definitive (the first angle shown at real time on TV looked clean to me frankly)
