Boudin cookoff today in Lafayette.

It was tough but we sampled the best of the best and results are in.

Well this is my top 4, I hope to have the official results tomorrow.

#1 NuNus by a very slight margin- the crisp casing made the difference IMO ..Damn good Boudin.

#2 Best Stop, some argument could be made for # 1

#3 Dons Specialty meats an easy vote for- # 3

#4 Kellys - Opelousas -quite a dropoff after # 3 but kellys was clearly # 4

We sampled 14 of the 20 boudins available then re sampled the top 3.

Its a tough job but someone has to do it.

Boudins sampled

Babineaux's Slaghterhouse, Breaux Bridge
Best Stop Supermarket, Scott
Billeaud's Meat and Grocery, Broussard
Chadeaux's Sausage Kitchen, Kinder
Chops Specialty Meats, Broussard
Comeaux's, Breaux Bridge
Don's Specialty Meats, Scott
Janise's Supermarket, Sunset
Johnson's Boucaniere, Lafayette
Kelly's Meat Block, Opelousas
Mike's Country Corner, Duson
NuNu's Fresh Market, Youngsville
The Sausage Link, Sulphur
T-Boy's Boudin and Cracklin, Mamou Meats

The Best Stop is in scott about a mile or so north of 1-10 at the scott/cankton exit right on the main highway.

problem with beststop is next week it will suck... to damn inconsistent.... i have been eating their boudin for years, and in the last 5-7 it has taken a turn for the worse.... Don's is more consistent and just hands down better. NuNu's is good, not doubt, my sis lives just up the road from there and i get it when i go in town...

I've found with the best stop that it's inconsistent as well. It'll either be really good or very mediocre. Often times the cracklin are stale too. For this reason I've been going to Don's more. I haven't tried out NuNu's yet, and am not familiar with Youngsville but would love to give it a shot.

Nice, I'm going to have to check out NuNu's. Best Stop and Don's are always solid. Surprised to see Kelly's up there, it's right with Ray's as the worst in Opelousas for me. Wish I could've made it down there for the boudin cook-off.

I'm a little surprised to not see Poche's of breaux bridge on the list. I've been to many of the places you listed and for money Poche's beats them all. With best stop coming in close behind.

I agree. If I remember correctly, they were expected to participate.

I grew up on that stuff. Eric used to make it at the Corner Store in Vidrine before he went to T-Boys.

Damn I miss Louisiana food.

The boudin at Best Stop has always been phenomenal...but the last time I got cracklins, they were horribly stale.

After Market Basket got shafted last year I doubt they'll ever participate again. Anyone from Calcasieu, Cameron, Beauregard, and Jeff Davis will tell you that they have the best boudin.

They might tell you that but it doesn't make it true.

I agree. I think Poche's gets overlooked because it is so far off the beaten path.
