PP is already playing at a much higher level than LaRon was in college.

No way in hell!!

If we had Landry now I defense would be a 1000x more physical and brutal than it is now. His mere presence on the field would be enough let alone his all out intensity.

PP = gifted, talented and obvious future pro

Landry = BEAST......nuff said.

Great CB's are defintiely worth more than great safety's in todays football environment.

But everyone loves to see the physical tackles of a brutal safety like Laron.

PP will leave LSU as one of the best cornerback's to ever play for the Tigers.

Im glad is playing right now. I don't know if it makes me happy that he gets so many tackles from across the field of if I should be scared....lol

I've never seen a corner get so many tackles from the opposite side of the field. It's like he's a ninja warrior fighting away evil samurai.

Landry, while a great player (one of the all-time great Tiger safeties no doubt)is somewhat overrated by many tiger faithful.

He would lay highlight real hits and was intimidating. He was and is a physical freak, thus the high draft choice.

However, he was actually better as a freshman and soph. because he would actually tackle as opposed to try to kill the person with the ball, not locking up and consequently missing a lot of tackles.

On top of that, his ball skills were never that great.

Before it is said and done, I think PP will have a similar, if not better, college career and will likewise be a high draft pick. However, I think PP is a better overall athlete, maybe not straightline speed, even though that would be close, but better overall package. Plus, PP is not trying to be the alpha male all the time.

I think PP will be the better pro if he stays healthy.

Note: Before all the Landry nut-swingers jump all over me, I am not saying Landry is bad. The whole scenario is like comparing a Mercedes S Class to a BMW 7 series. Both are extraordinary.

PP will be to CB, what LL was to FS.

I have watched Laron in washington and the guy just does not wrap up. So many players bounce off him because of this. He's a hitter ,not a tackler.

peterson is a shutdown corner that could probably cover most nfl wideouts right now

Please. Peterson is good and will develop into a nice professional one day but this statement is silly. If he had to line up this Sunday in a professional game he would be in for a very long day.

It makes just as much sense to compare PP and LL as it did to compare KW and JH in '07. Two DBs with different roles versus two RBs with different roles. It's the Rant, dude.

Also, if you can have a discussion about who you would rather retire a jersey number for if you had to--Dorsey or Casanova--then you can certainly discuss this.

I don't know but Peterson plays a lot smarter. It seems that evertime I watch the redskins Landry is hitting someone out of bounds, horse collar tackling, or grabbing a facemask. That hasn't changed since he left LSU.

I doubt Peterson will come close to the stats Laron put up during his career.

Landry(315tkls/16TFL/8scks/12int/2ff)

You can't expect a CB to have the same kind of impact a FS has, but PP can definitely still have a huge impact. I'd say he eliminates half the field, but in college football and the spread offenses lining up 4 and 5 wide, he'll never have that extreme of an impact. A better debate would be comparing PP to Corey Webster.

Webster(117tkls/5.5TFL/1sck/16int/3ff)

PP has the potential and has already displayed this season the sky's the limit for him. I think Chavis can't wait for the rest of the defense to catch up to PP because when they do, it's gonna be scary.

Little early to compare and they do play different positions and are at different stages/levels of their careers.

That said, Peterson is outstanding and seems to have lots of potential to get better.

Landry was good, too, particularly early in his college career but he morphed into more of a headhunter by the time he was a senior. With the Redskins, Landry showed promise as a SS but with the death of Sean Taylor he was moved to FS, where he's nothing more than a liability. As a 1st round pick, Cerrato and Synder won't put Landry on the bench but he can't cover anyone or anything at FS. He's consistently out of position and his tackling skills are almost non-existent because he's always trying to make a hit versus making a tackle. Landry seems to think that his headhunting and bravado will sustain him in the NFL. He's wrong. There's no consensus in and around DC that he's a bust just yet, but he's not playing anywhere near the level of a 1st round pick. His poor performance would be a much bigger issue if the Redskins didn't have so many other problems.

You can't gauge PP's impact by stats. I could be wrong, but I believe he has had one (1) pass thrown to his receiver since the Washington game. His impact is in making his side of the field off limits to passing plays.

I am really hoping Green and Jones are lined up on him. Maybe then we'll get to see him make plays.

this is a fact.

and like i said, they threw to his man during the washigton game and he had an insane number of tackles.

also, you can't really compare larons stats over the course of a 4 year career at saftey to what pp will put up while at lsu playing cb. i seriously doubt pp has a 4th year at lsu.

PP resembles C Web's game. Physical Corner who gives solid run support. Teams figured out it was a good idea not to throw to C Webs side as well. It will be fun to watch Loston develop...then we can compare Laron, Chaddo and Loston
