So-called fans bleating and bloviating about the lack of long passes in the LSU offense should sit down and shut up. I know, it's the generation of instant gratification and the 5-second sound bite. If you can't say it, hear it or experience it in less time than it takes to fire up your ipod, it isn't worthwhile, and God forbid the LSU offense should play a steady, run and short pass, ball control offense that merely puts up more points than the opponent by, among other things, keeping their offense on the sidelines. Whatever part of the learning curve the offense hasn't ascended yet, the oh-so-exciting long bomb isn't near the top of the list. Red zone offense, sure. Offensive line blocking, sure. Disguising the bubble screen, absolutely. Going bombs away so that for every long pass that hits there are three that are incomplete leading to a punt on fourth down might be exciting for the 12-year-olds in the crowd. But winning ugly is better than losing fancy. So stop with the bitching about the lack of constant 50 yard passes. They're overrated.

We have to stretch the field vertically to run the ball.

ny, how about we just throw it DOWN field...this weekend, I watched countless NFL tight ends catch passes 15-20 yards down the middle the field. There is this large swatch of the field that we are completely avoiding.

The deep safety was 10 yards off the line in the second half. Ten yards. I’m all for ball control offense and winning ugly. But the running game will be more effective if the safety has to play further from scrimmage. The Tigers ran 14 plays of 72 for a loss. There’s ugly and then there’s ugly.

That is unsustainable. I’m not saying LSU should be airing it out on every play. But when the opposing defense is packing the box and so many plays are going backwards, the offense has to throw deep for two reasons 1) it’ll open up the short game and 2) the deep ball should be open due to the lack of safety help.

Threat of the home run opens the offense in other ways... its really not that complicated. They've practiced red zone quite a bit supposedly, and JJ has nothing to do with how the O-line plays... People just want JJ to show he can hit the home run thats all.

You have to understand something about the RANT's immature college geeks: Bitching is their way of pretending to know what they are talking about.

So, stop pissing in the wind and let the children play make-believe.

Their baseless criticisms of our coaching staff is harmless as long as we keep winning.

You need to double space between each sentence or they get lost and stop reading.

Not sure everyone is expecting 50 yd bombs, as you've steted. One of those every now and then to loosen up the opposition's defense would be good, though.

Right now, we're seeing a lack of 20 yd. passes, and also seeing very limited use of the sideline "floaters" to our tall, experienced receivers like Lafell and Tolliver. These are safe passes that can easily be completed and/or draw flags.

I'm very much in favor of ball-control offense, but if you don't stretch the defense, you get 8 in the box, and you can't run the typical Scott-off-tackle play for 5-7 yds very effectively.

To Miles/Crowton's credit, they did call a few deep balls last game, but JJ couldn't connect. We should still keep trying - if the receivers are wide open, it will still loosen the defenses up, even if we don't connect with regularity. No coach wants to give up the longball, and seeing the possibility of that happening will, in and of itself, keep them honest.

We did not throw a single pass in the 8-19 yd range. It's obvious to me that they (coaches and probaby JJ is part of this) they are going all out to minimize the potential impact of an interception both on the team and on the fan base. While I don't blame them, sooner or later they will have to use the whole field, but they may not until it becomes necessary.

This is the truth

Throwing 5 yards in the flat for some shitty screen when the 1st down is 15 yards away AIN'T GETTING IT DONE Cochise.

I'm not looking for bombs away 60 yard passes every three plays. I'm looking for anything over 5 yards.

Big difference.
