I'm looking for a cook book with Louisiana recipes. I want something that has recipes the way locals around south LA really cook, not something with Yankee-fied, catered to tourist type recipes.

Any recommendations???

Emeril's "Louisiana Real and Rustic"...my first LA cookbook...co-written by Marcele Bienvenue w/ real recipes from kitchens and camps all over the state. I'm yet to get a bad dish out of this one.

I actually like the River Roads II (red cover, except my cover has fallen off!) cookbook. I use it more than the first one.

Paul Pruhomme's LA Kitchen is great. It also goes over some of the basics to cajun cooking.

I'm also a big fan of RRR IV. Talk about Good (yellow one) is okay, a lot of people like it, IMO it's pretty meh.

I would vote for any of CCLA's recommendations.. Those are probably your best of the bunch.. There is also one that is yellow and green striped that I cannot remember the name of.. I think its a lafayette cookbook.

The Frank Davis Seafood Notebook has proven to easily be my favorite over the years. It is chock full of usefull information as well as true South La. recipes. I have given this book as a gift to many people.

I still have the 1st River Roads book my Mom gave to me when I moved away from home in 1979. It is very worn, but also very used..............

Top 10 Cajun and Creole Cookbooks

1) Plantation Cookbook
2) American Cooking: Creole & Acadian (Time-Life Food of the World Series)
3) River Road Recipes vol I
4) Creole Feast: 15 Master Chefs of N.O. Reveal Their Secrets
5) La Bouche Creole
6) Who's Your Mama, Are You Catholic and Can You make a Roux?
7) Gourmet's Guide to New Orleans
8) Cajun Cuisine:Authentic Cajun Recipes from La's Bayou Country
9) The Picayune's Creole Cookbook
10) Louisiana Cookery

From Gene Bourg, Louisiana Cookin' Magazine, July/August, 1998

I like the Plantation Cookbook. It doesn't have as many recipes as some of the others, but the recipes it does has are the best you'll find. For example, its Turtle Soup, Grillades, Shrimp Creole and Crawfish Cardinale are the best I've ever had.

River Roads One and Two are probably my most used.

White Trash Cooking is a good one with Southern not just south Louisiana.

Cane River is a good one as well.
