missing what ?? i don't really find their opinions any more informative or entertaining than say, glassman, tavolitim, martini, tiger attorney, zilla, etc. etc. ... if they are in a thread just discussing food in general, they are just another poster with an opinion ... none of them were able to resist the temptation to pimp their own place either directly or indirectly for free .. that's all ..

I liked having them. It is good to get the thoughts of people that own or cook at restaurants some times.

agreed. I do miss their perspective on some restaurants. At least with their input (esp Opie and ABE) it helps this board be something other than a generic restaurant review and recommendation board, which is lame.

Dumb.

I never saw any of them say anything in a thread that would make me more OR less likely to patronize one of their establishments.

I guess I am used to some of the other food/restaurant boards that I hang at and it becomes a little community. It is cool to have some of the bartenders/owners/managers/chefs stop in and let folks know what is going on and talk food at times. They like to let you know what is going on in the industry and stuff.

I understand that droppings is more of a business and if Chicken wants things his way, I can't argue that.

You're essentially a customer HERE.

Is it not fair to point out when you think they may not be being exactly reasonable?

Rag, your actions on this issue reek of jealousy that someone else was getting positive attention on tigerdroppings. Now, these actions are being justified by the advertising angle but it really seems no different than you attacking people on the OT that start to gain any type following (attention whores, fat kid from arkansas, any female, etc.).

Am i correct? i don't know man, but it makes you look really, really petty.

I understand the entire pay to play concept and certainly chicken's point of view. I'm also sure each restaurant owner was warned sufficiently before getting the hammer dropped on them.

However, when Opie got jumped on for posting his own recipe (not the restaurant, his) because he used his nickname (which is the same name as his place), I thought it was absolutely absurd and just rediculous. He never said "check out my new pork chop recipe, which is featured as a special at my place."

Now it seems restaurant owners can't give advice or just chat about food without getting jumped on. It's hard enough that they are posters that are publically known.

But like I said, it's ultimately chicken's website and he makes the rules. And I'm not in favor of a restaurant owner getting on here and pimping their place (like the south of Philly incident - though it was never proved it was the owner)

Actually, other than chicken it seems that this only bothers one other person.

Sorry guys, but Rag nailed it. I said this on another thread, and I will say it again. I have an ad sales person in Baton Rouge (LSU alum, no less) whose livelihood depends upon selling ads for TD.com. How hard does it become for him to sell ads to a business when they see companies getting free exposure on here?

Why would they advertise on TD.com when they can promote their place for free on here? I had to scratch my head when I found out that one of the owners who has trolled the board for some time is advertising elsewhere.

This board was not intended for businesses to promote their place in any way...whether directly or indirectly. These aren't new policies for this site.

I also agree with this. In Louisiana, where cooking is a sport, you don't have to be a restaurant owner to know how to cook a great meal.

Why do they have to let everyone know they own a restaurant? Why can't they operate incognito? There are hundreds of users that could promote their products or services on the site but don't. No one knows who they are or what they do. They are following the rules.
