Will Miles allow CJ to miss spring football next year? Les received alot of praise for allowing Mitchell to concentrate on baseball. That was with his #4 or #5 receiver. How will he be with his #1 safety heading into his senior year?

If CJ has a good year, there may not be a next year - he'll declare for the NFL Draft.

You know this for a fact, even though he's said baseball was his first love and winning the national championship wed night felt better than winning a football title

I think we all know that money is most people's first love.

Hey Josh, when did the word "may" imply I was stating a fact? Just an opinion...geez, go have a cup of coffee.

Or he could have been caught up in moment?
Does he wanna play baseball where he gets 1 pay day then toils in minors for a few seasons. Or go to football get 1 big pay day and have a chance to start from day 1?

hmmmmmm

It was clearly in Mitchell's best interest to skip spring practice.

The same can not be said for Jones. If Jones has a very good year and sets himself up as a potential high pick in football, focusing on football could easily be the best thing for him.

CJ can strike out lefties and pitch 1 inning, now he should give up football and focus on baseball

:sigh: the rant

CJ will have some serious input on this as well.

IMO, the biggest importance for spring football is for finding guys who can step up and replace the guys who left. CJ will probably have had a full year (barring injury) as a starting safety, so he basically will have a solid grasp of his responsibilities which would lessen the need for more reps in the spring (thats assuming we don't change DC after next season). Think of it this way, as long as Chuck Scott was keeping in shape, how important do you think would have been that he got significant reps in the spring? He knows what he is doing and the offense he plays in didn't dramatically change. Just saying...

most likely chad jones will be a 1st round pick in the nfl draft in the next few years. his future is in the nfl, where you dont have to toil in the minor leagues for years. he craves the spotlight, and there is a quicker path to greatness in football.

Spring practice is much more important for lower classmen. I love football as much as anything, but it ain't rocket science. Spring practice doesn't help someone like CJ that much if any. The only thing it does is sets the tone for what other players can and can't do.

Based on what, his 5* rating? People are assumimg he will be drafted as high as LL. LL was a stud the minute he stepped on LSU's campus and CJ has basically had one big play in an LSU uniform. I think he has potential but shite. Unless you're drafted in the top 10-15 picks, Football signing bonuses are not that great and the contracts aren't guaranteed.

Based on what?? He doesn't come across at all as someone that craves 24/7 attention. He would have skipped football entirely out of HS is the $$ was right, so what makes you think he wouldn't do the same now..

So top 15 picks get 10+ million in signing bonus, Top 5 20 million and a contract worth 5-10 million a year on top of that and its not good just cause not guaranteed?

based on his direct quotes saying he loves the spotlight.

dude is 6'4" 220 and athletic, and he hasnt played his natural position, free safety yet.

i never said he was leron landry, a top 10 pick, just said he would be a first rounder.

Think a better question will be, "Will CJ see the baseball field again, or will he be preparing for the NFL draft in April?"

He will have finished his junior year of football prior to the start of Baseball....

IMHO, I think Chad would be crazy not to play another year of baseball. He is an exceptional football player but he is not a football player that plays a little baseball on the side. He came very close to signing with the Astros out of high school when at that time it sounded like he was a great baseball player that was only going to play football if he didn't get the money he wanted from baseball.
I think if he plays another year of baseball he will head into his senior year with the oppourtunity to be a 1st or 2nd round draft pick in both sports. Not a bad delima to be in.
