Wish someone would explain to me how a #5 ranking equates to a #1 seeding.

Are you referring to Texas? If so, rankings and seedings are not the same thing. The NCAA Committee does not consider rankings when it seeds teams.

i'm guessing you are talking about Texas being ranked 5th getting the #1 national seed? If so, their RPI and winning their conference and tourney and SOS were all contibuting factors

I think he is refering to Texas being ranked #5 in some polls and still getting the #1 overall seed in the NCAA tourny.

He is, and it's a good question. The NCAA doesn't consider rankings when handing out seeds, just RPI, SOS, etc., that's true.

But they also don't factor in where the RPI comes from. Texas fattened it's RPI up on teams that didn't even make the tourney, for the most part.

LSU did better than Texas against both top 25 and top 100 teams.

LSU vs top 25: 22-8
LSU vs top 100: 8-7

Texas vs top 25: 19-8-1
Texas vs top 100: 6-5

Add in the farce that is the Big XII tournament, and LSU clearly had better credentials to be top seed than Texas.

Oh well.

I thought it was because Texas doesn't have to plan anyone so they have a better outlook for the tournament.

It doesn't make sense. Nothing can be said to make it make any sense. It's senseless.

So you're saying LSU doesn't have a target on them because they're the number 3 seed?

A board full of smartasses. You maggots knew what he was talking about. If he's asking a question, that means he really doesn't know. Just answer the damn question and cut out all the smartass shite. Then its over, and no one is pissed off.

For the same reason there are multiple polls - some people have different ideas of whick teams are better than others. If absolutely everyone agreed we wouldn't have to play the games.

You've got a chairman of the selection committee, Tim Weiser, who is deputy commissioner of the Big 12 and, well what do you know, the Big 12 champion is the No. 1 seed in the whole country.

This helped Oklahoma State get in after finishing 9th in the Big 12.
