I hate to say it,but I teared up in that 1995 Arkansas game when it was obvious we were going to win. That Independence Bowl might as well have been the Rose Bowl.

Amen brotha. And I can proudly say that I never left early, regardless of score or weather. Stupid or loyal? Maybe a little of both.

+1...I guess thats why I don't get into all the Hawthorne bashing, because there was a time when he was the only link to what was going on, it's not like we were on TV week in and week out and when we were, it was because the opponent was really good and we usually got slaughtered....Man how things change

My first semester in college. I fell down drunk at EVERY one of those home games. One time down the isle, one time up the bleachers (after asking a marshal for his arm band), and I don't remember the rest. We partied at those games like LSU football was the greatest event on the planet, and it was to us. I snuck in two pints to each game, and everyone else brought as much as they could. The walk from Power dorm was unbelievable. Just wild.

I still treat games like this, not the fall down part though. We partied during the Ole Miss crap fest this year and went out after like nothing bad happened. We're almost anti-bandwagon fans. We have a great time at every game, and honestly it pisses people off. That and the cussing. I can't help it. 8 years at LSU warped my brain.

ETA: Our 'cheer' when LSU screwed up was "Awe sh_t, sh_t, sh_t, sh_t, f_ck." We used it a good bit. When it got really bad we'd add more profanities to the end.

My all time fav. It makes the Troy near fiasco not seem so bad.

Unfortunately I got to witness this abortion first hand.

I have to say that anyone that put up with the debacle that was the '90's in Tiger Stadium is in no way, shape or form a fairweather or bandwagon fan and should be respected accordingly I remember thinking, "man, if we could just win 6 games" How pissed would we be today, if we could JUST when 6 games?

Tiger Stadium transcends football, and sport in general. It's the personification of Louisiana and the good times that we have. To this day when I walk on campus for gamedays I feel like I'm where I belong. Something I could never explain to someone outside of the SEC.

As did I. I had season tickets throughout the Hallman era because my sister was a student at LSU. The best thing about gamedays was getting a daiquiri for the ride up to Baton Rouge from New Orleans and partying with her sorority sisters. The football games were filled with unintentional comedy and usually ended in defeat.

I guess the point of this is enjoy the good times while they last, and don't think for one second that we could not be right back there with one bad

The younger ppl who don't remember this just don't know how bad it was. But there were some glimmers of light in the sea of darkness, unfortunately they faded away. The Texas A&M opener was a 1:30 kickoff on ABC in TS. It was a game the Tigers really should have won, they were right there all day. MSU game was one of my favs. Tiger defense dominated, and there were some crazy things that happened in this game. Auburn was another game the tigers should have won, they came back from a huge defecit to take the lead with about aminute left just to see Auburn go down and kick a field goal. This was the game that was the down fall of the season. The team was never the same. Take it from someone who witnessed this season from my seats on the northend and had a good friend who went thru it on the field. Cherish the current times and savor every moment because it won't last forever.

So true, I'll go even further back to listening to LSU on the radio play USC, Alabama in 79 and then playing Miami in 88 and getting absolutely crushed. I remember wondering if we would ever be at that level where we could not just compete but beat those teams and get the recruits. Years later we crush Miami and we have a number 1 ranked class. Every Tiger fan should count their blessings because it can be fleeting. Just look at Miami.

I am pretty sure that's the year it rained during the game. My friends and I sat there soaking wet, getting wasted, and talking to some visiting recruits. What a beating that was.

No, that was a different year. The 1992 game was actually more competitive than the score looked. We played them toe to toe in the first half, but, as always seemed to happen that year, bad breaks had us down 17-5. Trailing 24-11 in the 4th quarter, we were moving the ball surprisingly well but shooting ourselves in the foot until they put the game away with a late TD. Oh, and the weather was beautiful that day.

Well said...I left Louisiana when I was five, but it never left me. We always...always visit Tiger Stadium and Mike whenever we pass thru Baton Rouge. My Dad's ashes are in the South Endzone, on the levee and throughout the Parade Grounds so my attachments and love for LSU and Louisiana are just as personal as they are eternal. Just the way I like it. Geaux.

I was a student at LSU during the 90's and the only positive about football back then was the awesome seats I could get during halftime when half the student section usually hit the bars...those were dark days...I still remember sitting in an empty student section during the pouring rain while getting the hell kicked out of us by Florida State...god those years sucked...

You know, it's always bugged me that people pick on Hawthorne and now I know why - because I was always damn happy to hear his voice. His voice meant I got to at least hear the game - because I damn well wasn't going to be able to watch it.

I was at the Colorado State loss. It was on Senior Day, where LSU invited promising high school seniors to campus, then go to the game - yeah, that's how big demand was for tickets that year, they just let us all go to the game. And then LSU lost. To the Rams.

Good times.

Yep. At that time I thought we win a basketball title before a football championship. How things change.
