This is an effect of Mizzou joining the SEC and college football in general becoming more popular in the state. Obviously things like this take time to manifest.

But all these kids going the football route is also why the in state basketball talent in Missouri hasn't really been as great. Obviously big men aren't switching to football, but a lot of 6'5 or 6'6" and shorter guys that may have focused more on basketball are putting more effort into football and getting noticed.

What's the per capita number? That's what is statistically significant since state population varies greatly.

Texas would have needed 66 picks to be on par with Georgia and Alabama on a per capita basis.

Louisiana would have needed 8.

LSU fans are as predictable and dependable as a swiss watch. Never fails that "muh per capita" will come up every time when this topic comes up. Here's a fun exercise, pretend you're recruiting and you have to determine which state is "better" to recruit from:

State A
Only 30 graduating HS seniors
2 are 5*
8 are 4*
The other 20 are 3* or lower

State B
200 graduating HS seniors
4 5*
36 4*
160 3* or lower

State A's "per capita" metrics are insane. 30% of the entire HS class is a blue chip prospect. Wowzers! Compare that to State B whose 4/5* ratio is only 20% of the population. LSU fans would have you think that State A is the winner and will beat their chest over those numbers, while ignoring that any college coach, or really anyone with any interest in recruiting whatsoever, will obviously acknowledge State B to be superior. They have twice as many 5* prospects and over 4x as many 4*. Not to mention 8x as many "others" that could ultimately find a roster spot.

Yes, but the demographics of these states are very different. Significantly higher % of retirees living in the FL. We have somewhere close to 5M people living here over the age of 65.
