Yes he is in charge but he’s not the one making the errors & walking people & hitting weak fly balls to center. Take a breath for five seconds & think about what you are saying when you bash him.

Unbelievable.

Was he the one making the plays, striking people out, and hitting homeruns in 23 and 25?

Dude, the entire team is terrible in every phase of the game. It’s coaching.

He’s a great coach who also is doing a poor job managing this team. Both can be right and it’s always somewhere in betweeen. It’s the people who go way out one way or the other that come off as idiots.

I don't think Jay is above criticisms and he'd probably tell you the same. Some of the takes on here are very dumb though, I agree.

Jay has won national championships by bringing in elite transfers and retaining the quality in program ones. This year has not been that. It’s reasonable to say he did a bad job in that department this year. That’s ok, it doesn’t mean fire him or that he sucks.

This year is extremely hard to judge. You lose a ton and get way behind in the portal. Then you start losing games and try to push buttons. At some point you just run out of buttons and it's on the players.

Several losses this year have come from just flat out failure of execution. The Ruckert errors earlier in the year, the Vanderbilt walks, the Clauss errors against OM, the missed spots the last 2 days. Like at some point, what is the coach supposed to do?

I think, this year, the players have failed him much more than he's failed the players.

Please tell me who a good coach is so that we can compare Jay to him.

That's my thing.

I accept valid criticism. When you (not you, generally speaking) are throwing a fit at every single negative outcome and saying to fire various coaches, I'm not going to take what you say seriously.

Then, those same people who just post the dumbest shite of all time, will respond "oh no no no we're not allowed to criticize the perfect Jay Johnson he can do no wrong no no no" and you just go in circles. There's a lot of mentally weak people on this board who can't look at things objectively. There's also a ton of people on this board that don't know the first thing about baseball, but think they do because they played middle school baseball 40 years ago.

I really don't get it.

"but we should never see anything this bad."

I'll take this every year following a Natty. Pretty sure every single fan base would.

Until I see this in b2b years then I'm not going to whine about it. This reminds me a lot of the 24 season and I was saying the same thing then. Yes, that team finally turned it on, but all the negative takes were the same. All the Jay Johnson bashing too.

I didn't expect much this season just like the 24 season. I don't care how highly ranked they were to start the year it never really felt like that to me. I remember seeing some SEC media guy predict LSU to miss the postseason this year. I wish I could find that, but even he knew coming off a Natty it might look this way given the history. That just means next year should be great.

They are idiots. I've had my arse in the bleachers longer than most on here have been alive.

Jay is better than Skip. Not by a lot of course, but Jay would have more ships than Skip if they were in the same era.

He has said the same. He let players go and picked up players who didn’t work. He will keep players and fill spots as needed. It’s frustrating on a fan level and I can’t imagine on the coaching and player level.
We have pieces to build around. Cade, Omar, I know we have some more.

Na man, frick that. Jay deserves a lot of blame for this year. I've been one of his biggest defenders but he's been atrocious this year. Just fricking terrible. Wrong decision after wrong decision.

Pitcher doing well? Let's pull him. Pitcher doing bad? Let's leave him in there. Putting in defensive replacements when the players who were playing were playing well only for the defensive replacement to make an error. The constant shifts costing us outs and giving opposing teams hits and RBIs. Keeping Yorke in this lineup WAY too long. I could go on and on. He's been a terrible manager this year and his coaching has been shitty too, as evidenced by the play on the field.

Does that mean he's a bad coach? I don't think so. But, he's been terrible this year. Not acknowledging that doesn't make you a better fan, it just makes you an idiot refusing to accept reality. He's cost this team way too many games this year. When he's calling out the players he needs to also call himself out as well because he's at just as much fault as them.

The whole program stinks this year and he's at the top. He deserves more blame for this year than what many here want to give him.

Another thing.

It's not even a situation where it's like oh he won 1 natty, so he can't be bashed. Like a CPM or O. And he should just live off that.

He's already won 2 Natties in 3-4 years. He's already shown this formula.

It's absolutely wild to me. I'll never forget the people bashing Jay in 2024 saying they would take DVH over him. The guy who has 0 Natties.

Jay is a great coach but he’s been awful this year with roster construction and in game management. Two things can be true.

You're an idiot for saying that. He could never build what Skip did. LSU was nothing in baseball before Bertman.

Was he pitching and catching and hitting and fielding in 2026?
