Should Orleans Parish and Jefferson Parish merge?

It might allow them to get rid of some inefficiencies and unneeded personnel if they just unite under the New Orleans government. Helena Moreno can help fix some of the issues plaguing Jefferson Parish for years now. The new merged area can be called “Greater New Orleans”.
I think it might help too if they make Greater New Orleans a semiautonomous region within Louisiana (kind of like Sicily as a semiautonomous region of Italy). Giving New Orleans more control of their affairs and more ability to make their own laws that are appropriate for that unique region of the state would allow them handle their own problems more effectively and efficiently.
Basically, NOLA would have less red tape and more ability to act and fix the problems of Orleans and Jefferson more quickly and totally. More decentralized, local government is a good thing for New Orleans and also for the rest of Louisiana.

Not just no but frick no. I can't tell you the last time I almost lost a tire to a pothole in Jefferson parish but I certainly can tell you when it happened in Orleans parish.

New Orleans is completely mismanaged. Jefferson is relatively competently governed. Your solution is to let New Orleans’s government run both!?

Absolutely not.
Jefferson isn't perfect, but JP government is run a HELL of a lot better than Orleans.
Orleans Parish's infrastructure is falling apart. Why would JP want to have their taxpayers footing the bill to fix the crumbling streets and water / sewer systems in Orleans and taking funding away from maintaining JP's infrastructure?
NOPD is dealing with a massive manpower shortage. Why would JP residents want JPSO to have to divert their resources to make up for NOPD's shortfalls.
Teedy left the city with an enormous budget deficit. Why would JP residents want to get themselves tied up in that?
What you're suggesting is the equivalent of a successful man who makes $150K a year, has never been married, has no kids, no criminal record, etc.....getting married to a twice divorced stay-at-home mom who dropped out of high school and already has 4 kids with 3 different guys.

That's a dead end street for Jefferson Parish. You might as well start building extra lanes on the Causeway if that ever happens, because property values would crumble, crime would skyrocket and start another exodus to St Tammany and St Charles

Only if you want Covington and Mandeville to be the two biggest suburbs in the state. people live in Metairie so they don’t have to deal with the trash in Orleans Parish.

No, but I think that larger cities could be well served if somehow mayors and parish presidents of areas also in the metro area surrounding a city had some sort of council or something that affected the city. Or if those areas could also vote in city elected leaders.
I don't have any specifics, just spitballing ideas here.

That's not true
We also don't want to deal with the trash in Chalmette and Slidell

New Orleans is losing population by the day, I give it four or five more decades before it’s abandoned.

As a resident of Jefferson Parish…frick no.

Let me qualify. We will consider this if JP residents get 12x the voting power than Orleans residents.

No, the opposite should happen.
Orleans Parish should be de-annexed from the state and become a U.S. territory.

Going to court in Orleans is what I would Imagine it is like to go to court in Haiti.
The “government” in Orleans does not need to metastasize anywhere else.
