Good but small school for sports

Better than local schools.
Worse than St Thomas for sports and academics.

What year did they start? Because we all know JBE played for Amite High and they used to be in a larger classification (they’re 2A next fall)

OFA Class of '91
All I got is that we were the first Louisiana private school to win a Mississippi Private School Association state championship.
We won the 2A baseball state championship my Jr year, which also happen to be my first year there. Yep, I played on the team.
I can't give any specifics, but OFA has grown a lot over the past few decades. As far as athletics, they've put in a baseball field and softball field on campus and put turf on the football field.
I know, CSB

It was pretty high quality when I graduated in 2005, however they were very limited in elective options. Their curriculum in HS is basically just what’s the bare minimum to qualify for TOPS. I came already having foreign language requirements and therefore I had to take shop class twice.
There is a screening process including a simple test and interview but I suspect it’s a smokescreen for discrimination rather than actual evaluation of ability.
It’s filled with parents that are passionate about the school (though now many of them are my former classmates). There is a sense of community there in that a number of staff and members of the board are alumni.
Can’t really speak other than that about how it is now.

Are they affiliated with a church?
Are they staffed by woke activists?

As I stated I can’t speak to current staffing but they weren’t when I was there, and the principal up to around four years ago was as leveled headed, zero bullshite as they come. (He was my teacher for chemistry/physics as well as the football coach. One of the few cases of not being a token teacher just given a bullshite class because he was a coach).
There were strong religious ties, but it was non denominational and not affiliated with any particular church.

Think OFA started in the 60's maybe
All of JBE's family went to Amite. His Brother in law was the basketball coach there when I went (I graduated Amite in 97). There has been a shift in the last 20 years. Most of the people I went to school with at Amite are sending there kids to OFA now. OFA has seen significant growth while Amite High has lost students.
As far as curriculum none of my friends that have kids there have a lot bad to say about it. I haven't lived there since I graduated but I keep in touch with everyone.

Same year as the integration reflex LISA schools.

Well Silliman is a hour a way, th8s would be OFA vs Bowling Green. If we have to drive super far they will just stay at St. Peters.

Imagine picking a school for your kids because of sports

extra curriculars are a huge part of kids experiences, enjoyments, and lifetime friends they leave school with.

If no one did that John Curtis would look way different

I can't speak on academics but I'd have a hard time believing they are worse than STA in sports. I watched their football team this year and it's the worst football team I have ever seen in my entire life. Looked like a middle school team.

i didn't allude to them or the idea of being small being good or bad. I said small. Small can be very good for a family. Small can be not good for a family. Its all about the fit of a kid in a placement with what they are looking to get out of the experience. Oak Forest does a lot of MS traveling for their games, something to keep in mind too.

The principal there this year came from Bowling Green in Franklinton. He's a huge sports guy, in fact I'd dare say he cares about sports/academics 90/10. He's what we call out in the real world "a no talent pussy". He's a yes man for the board and that's why he's been promoted from football coach to running both schools. He will treat your kid like dogshit unless you're of some use to him.
ETA, if you're at St Peters I'm assuming the competition is between bowling green and OFA. Bowling Green exists for the sake of a few certain families. The principal there is completely ill suited for the job. It goes something like this
the GREEN is the last name of the fella that started the school. His daughter is still an employee there, and she's given a music teacher job for the sake of her having something to do. You WILL go to the annual nut cracker play and your attendance is a grade for your child, just so this woman has a crowd for her play. The principal is the daughter in law of this woman, and she doesn't have the skills to run a snow ball stand, much less a school.
