VIDEO: Central baseball coach suspended by LHSAA after stripping incident

quote:The school’s principal Brandon LaGrue announced the suspension Wednesday in a letter to the players’ parents that was obtained by LouisianaSports.net.
Last Saturday during a double-header at Calvary Baptist, Gabehart came out of the dugout to argue a call and began removing his uniform. He threw his hat and two shirts, standing barechested near the third baseline. LouisianaSports.net obtained video of the incident.
“This afternoon the LHSAA notified us that they have suspended Coach Gabehart for the remainder to the baseball season including all post-season contests and practices. This is a developing situation, and we regret that we did not have the opportunity to schedule a parent meeting to deliver this information,” he wrote. Video in link. Ole Baw lost it

Kinda weak to send a letter instead of having a team meeting.

I was coaching my son’ team about 20 years ago. They was 10 year olds. I was coaching third and it was a close play at second, the teen ump called him out. Kids mom rushs the field grabs the teen ump by the shirt and starts cussing him out. I pull the lady off of him and say “ lady look where you are” she immediately starts crying. They didn’t press charges but banned her from the park. She was a teacher. She just blacked out from rage I guess

What a melt! Maybe corch Jay should start showing this kind of fire!!
May equate to at least 2 more SEC wins after that crap of a roster he built with NIL money.

Sham Gabehart
Sounds like one of those generated names on the old Ken Griffey Jr baseball game.

This is embarrassing. You wanna flip your shite and yell, go for it. Standing topless like you want to throw hands? What a douche.

Over a close play at first in a non-district, regular season game.
I coached high school baseball for 16 years, and, unfortunately, these “types” are pretty common in the baseball coaching ranks.

I get couth and his lack of it in that instance but that video shows a pretty underwhelming crime considering the punishment. Dude never even crossed the basepath and within 10 seconds was picking up his shirts and hat. Everyone involved in this situation overreacted. See far worse in little league, college and MLB, even church leagues. Since when did taking ones shirt off(what violence!) warrant a season suspension? Suspend the bat flippers, taunters and shite talkers(players and coaches) if you really want a clean game with a family atmosphere, as this suspension based on perception seems to suggest they want.

Trust me
It was an accumulation of events
No ump or opposing team went into a game vs Central not knowing
But it doesn’t preclude him from making some changes and having success

In today’s culture, to my understanding, if you’re really angry at someone and take your shirt off, it means one thing.
I get that he regrouped quickly and gathered the clothing that he’d shed, but grow the F up a bit.

In a more civilized time a coach would have stepped away for the season out of embarrassment and to maybe get help if he wanted to keep working with kids. But the cool part of him not doing so is the suspension drew attention to his actions and pushed the video to a far broader audience

Too bad she didn't rip her shirt off

Being that it was a HS game, NFHS rules apply here.
NFHS is BIG on sportsmanship. Written all over the rule book is the phrase “extension of the classroom” and players, coaches and administrators are expected to have that phrase front of mind. With that in mind, how would/should administration react when a teacher/role model flips his shite and decided to strip half naked in the classroom?
