There was nobody in pre check line this morning at 7:00am. Zero other people other than 4 TSA agents and me. It took me longer to get my coffee

During the height of the insanity online about it, I went on a tuesday afternoon and there was literally not a single person in the precheck/touchless ID line. Went right on through

I still plan on getting my arse to MSY at 5 pm and breeze through with precheck and Clear.

You would breeze through regular security at 5 pm
Security is only really busy from like 5 am-8 am

This is not necessary at all.
People think I am nuts because I always get there 2 hours early. I don't mind, you never know what can go wrong. Forget your passport, flat tire, unexpected traffic whatever
But 3 hours for MSY is nuts now. There is nothing to worry about. You will get through in less than 10 minutes, probably less than 5 with precheck and clear

Luckily I saw it after landing home to MSY. But agree with the above it’s back to normal. Still busy arse crack of dawn on Mondays but that’s normal

There is a MyTSA app. On it, you can filter to your airport and look up “historical” wait times based on data for the previous week or two. Pretty much, other than Sundays, it’s a very low wait time all other days and times except for 30 minutes or so between 3:30 and 6 am. Sunday mornings appear to still suck with over hour waits [the app graph maxes out at 60 minutes but states “standard wait times are typically greater than 60 mins around 5 am”]. The app does not distinguish between regular lines and TSA precheck. Of course I fly out this Sunday mornings appear to at 6:50 am, but I do have the new touchless/Face ID TSA Precheck so hopefully that line will be short.
